Short Property Description

We have a beautiful family hobby farm between Denmark and Albany on the South coast of Western Australia. We share a passion for gardening, building a sustainable future, and nature both forest and sea. We have two dogs, a few sheep and a flock of chickens. There is a lot of wildlife that visits our property and we are involved in a revegetation project to support the local wildlife through conservation and biodiversity. Our property has an established organic orchard and herb garden while the vegetable garden is seasonal so produce will vary significantly depending on the time of year. The property is run on rain water, has an irrigation dam, solar panels and we try to use as little energy from the grid as possible. The main house is built from mud brick and recycled materials. There is a self contained converted train carriage and a yoga studio with a moat. We are close to a national park with walk trails, good swimming beaches where you can fish and/or surf.

Organic/Biological methods we use

We have a vegetable and herb garden close to the house, then a netted orchard where the chickens live. The green waste from the garden and kitchen is fed to the chickens then the manure feeds our garden beds. We use mainly the water from the irrigation dam to water our vegetable garden or rainwater from the house.

Why I became a WWOOF Host

I traveled around Australia with my mother when I was 10 years old as a WWOOF volunteer. Now I have a place of my own I would like to host people to stay with us. I enjoy both cooking and gardening but find these to be better when shared. I am passionate about sustainable living and having just completed a course I am happy to share my interest with other like minded people.
