Virtue Farm is a 33 acre property overlooking Fraser Island, and includes 27 acres of remnant forest which will never be developed. The forest is an oasis for bird life and other animals and is great for walking.  We are 10 minutes from Hervey Bay and 10 minutes from the Fraser Island Barge that leaves from River Heads.  We have an existing permaculture garden and are upscaling to small farm size. Our house block is 1.5 acres and backs on to the farm land.  We are in the beginning stages of becoming a commercially viable farm, so you will be helping to establish our property. We ask for five hours of work per day per person, depending upon the type of work and we can be very flexible in this regard. This could include farm work, vegetable patch work, caring for the chooks, moving small saplings, rock picking, planting, mulching, weeding, harvesting, fencing, land clearing and chopping wood  and general home maintenance. If you have any specific skill base or interest we are open to negotiation. In return, we will supply an evening meal shared with us and you can prepare your own breakfasts and lunch from what we supply. Accommodation  for 4 in a granny flat downstairs, we have 1 room with two king single beds - can be joined to make a king, 1 room with a queen size bed. We can accommodate singles and couples. Mixed diet and a mix of vegetarian and meat based meals.  Whilst we have some capacity to cater for vegans, we will have to learn from you to assist us to cater for your needs and are willing to do so within limits. Internet access is available close to the house. Virtue Farm acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of the land, the Butchulla people, where we work and live, and recognise their continuing connection to land, water and community. We pay our respects to Elders past, present and emerging. While you are here, you should make time to go to Fraser Island. We are very flexible and happy to work around dates that you can access which are cheaper for you. Many of our volunteers have found great deals on the “Book Me” website. You would be welcome to leave your property here where it would be safe if you do choose to visit. Additionally, we strongly suggest that you plan for at least a one night overnight stay on Fraser Island; many of our volunteers have done the day tour and loved it, but all say they wished they’d stayed for longer as they felt like they only had a glimpse and not enough time to experience all it has to offer. Those people who stayed for two or three nights seem to have had the best experiences. We have some back packs and camping gear for volunteers to use (for a small fee to cover wear and tear) if they want to do the longer treks and hikes on Fraser Island. We are also aware that some companies do dual booking between the Whit Sundays and Fraser Island and they have been both popular and economical. As long as you book your trip to Fraser Island from Hervey Bay we are happy to drive you to where you need to be. If you book from Rainbow Beach, then you will have to arrange your own transport as it is about an hour and a half away. We have two bicycles and helmets which we are happy to share so you can spend a day or afternoon in Hervey Bay exploring and experiencing all that our fabulous community has to offer. There is no public transport to our home, but we are happy to drive into Hervey Bay so you can see our beautiful beaches, piers, parks and lifestyle. There are some lovely walks in the remnant forest on our block and it is always lovely to watch the kangaroos that visit daily. The volunteers that we have had so far have enjoyed their time with us and have been happy to join in with our family and extended family. You will stay in the two bedroom flat downstairs, with its own bathroom, kitchenette with microwave, fridge, toaster and kettle , dining area and lounge room. We have one room with a queen sized bed and one with two king singles. There is a TV, DVD player and some board games, card, paints and mindful colouring books. We also have heaps of Earth Garden magazines and similar to browse.

Thank you for your interest in volunteering. We appreciate help, enjoy young people and having an excuse to visit the beautiful and interesting places Adelaide, the hills and the Fleurieu Peninsula in South Australia have to offer with them. Due to the corona virus all our booked overseas helpers had to cancel their flight to Australia. The first time in Years we might at times be without helpers at all. Some local Australian helpers, unable to go overseas are now filling the gap which is very nice as we used to have overseas helpers only before. Please read through all the text below and only apply if you think this is for you. We live on a 2 hectare property with the young Angas River running through. We have organic gardens with fruit trees, all sorts of berries, vegetable gardens with free roaming bantams, big layer hens, a Muscovy duck, flower beds, lawns as well as two goats on paddocks and a cute house cat. 1 of our 4 kids Katharina is  living next door with her partner. Bernward is semi retired but still runs a sustainable architecture and building consultancy business part time from offices attached to the home. Barbara works at the local hospital. We have been accommodating helpers since 2011  through various help exchange sites. If you want a break from travelling in a non judgmental  friendly  family environment and you are open and self-motivated, this is the place for you. This is not an action or party place but rather a place to relax and get creative with great light, & scenery for painting and photography, write and get back to nature. A big woodworking workshop invites creativity. I enjoy teaching woodworking skills to our helpers with the option to learn how to fit out campervans and tiny houses. A couple of times a week we heat up our Sauna and helpers are welcome to join. Help is always needed in the garden & paddock, picking berries & apples, looking after animals, weed control, making firewood, compost, cleaning up sheds & around the place, sometimes on a sustainable building site. We live 45min by car from Adelaide, 45min from safe swimming beaches & 45min from the surf, so we are pretty central. Accommodation  for 2 in separate stone cottage & own room in the main building. All share in home cooked evening meal. Mixed diet. No smokers please. Longer stays (min 3 weeks) preferred after initial few days. Please contact us via email only.

"Namoorook" circa 1895, is a beautifully restored homestead on 71 acres of farm land approximately 1.5 kms from Leongatha and 130kms from Melbourne. Adopting regenerative agricultural practices, Namoorook is a mixed farming operation with livestock, organic fruit orchard and vegetable gardens. We hope it will become an example of how food and farming systems can use the power of nature to increase biodiversity, enrich the soil, capture carbon, improve watersheds enhancing the entire ecosystem.

We have a beautiful 40 acre horse agistment property, veggie garden & fruit trees and approx. 5 acres bush. 3 min drive to surf beach, bay beach & Inverloch town or 10 min drive to Wonthaggi, a larger town. Push bikes available. We are very interested in living a sustainable lifestyle and hope that our WWOOFers are also interested in living sustainably and learning, and sharing knowledge of this. Work may include harvesting, food collection, composting, mulching, hay carting, weeding, fencing, planting, food preservation.  Sometimes there is some work caring for horses: often all the work is in the garden and paddock maintenance, as the horses are mainly looked after by their owners. We eat a healthy, sustainable diet.  Bron is vegan and while Ray eats everything, many meals are vegan or vegetarian.  Vegetarians & vegans catered for.  No children, no smoking, all stays negotiable on application. City/Town: Lenswood
Farming Methods: Organic
Accommodation Type: In Our Home
We are a family of four (Eddie, Prue, Edith (8) and Maggie (5) living on a 2 acre property in beautiful Lenswood in the Adelaide Hills. Lenswood is well known for its apple, pear and cherry orchards as well as a growing number of vineyards and wineries. Our property comprises a small orchard, vegetable garden, raspberry patch, chicken run, dam and cottage gardens. We practice organic farming methods, we do not use synthetic chemicals or fertilisers, we feed our soil using our own compost and weed teas, we rotate beds, we grow flowers amongst our vegetables to attract bees and beneficial insects, we have 3 bee colonies, three geese, a dog and soon we will have chickens again. Eddie has completed a Permaculture Design Certificate and currently we are implementing changes and nurturing our property to become more self reliant, resilient and productive. WWOOFers will have the opportunity to assist with projects on the farm as well as general property duties and maintenance. Upcoming projects and tasks include;
  • Continuing the transforming of the old orchard to a food forest
  • Enclosing the chicken run for fox protection
  • Planting, weeding, pruning, composting
  • Nurturing our vegetable, herb and tea gardens
  • Harvesting and preserving food
  • Caring for our pets (currently geese and bees- chickens coming soon)
Accommodation is in a converted wine cellar on the lower level of our house. The room is dark but stays very nice and cool. The room has a very comfortable double bed. We have a second bathroom on the main level of the house for guests to use. Our property runs solely on rain water so guests are asked to have short showers (personally we aim for 3 minutes each). All meals will be shared and help with food preparation and cleaning up after meals would be appreciated. We mainly eat vegetarian meals and can cater for all dietary needs. There is no public transport in Lenswood. There is a bus service to Uraidla (10 minutes drive from Lenswood) and we are happy to pick up WWOOFers and also drop off at the end of their stay. Woofers own vehicle would be helpful for exploring the local area (highlights include forest walks, wineries, water holes and local townships). Our working hours are Monday to Friday 8-4 with and hour and a half for lunch and tea breaks. Weekends are reserved for relaxation. If you have your own vehicle the options are endless, if not there are a couple nature reserves within walking distance from our house and a winery opening soon across the road. Guests are welcome to join in any family outings that may be happening also. We are social people who enjoy meeting others, learning about other cultures and sharing experiences. Our children are very energetic and love having visitors (be prepared to be very popular). We enjoy a glass of wine with some nice food and good company. We look forward to meeting people from across Australia and around the world. Currently we are searching for an individual who is social,  hardworking and eager to get their hands dirty. An interest in permaculture or organic growing would be good. Some independent working will be required (during school drop off and pick up times). We are open to the option of longer stays however we prefer to host for a week first as a trial and take it from there. We look forward to hearing from you. Prue, Eddie, Edith and Maggie Harry (the dog) Sunny, Midnight and Lizzie (the geese)
