We are both in our early 50's. We are both working part-time with our Melbourne jobs and the rest of the time on the farm. We both work hard but try to find a work life balance which can be challenging. We are on 135 rolling acres with stunning views of Kilmore and Melbourne. We are situated 90 km from Melbourne, and 15 mins from Kilmore or Lancefield. We currently have 2 dorper sheep named Brucey and Bella, whom are very friendly and affectionate, 3 frizzle chickens named Vanilla, Chocolate and Caramel and 7 Indian runner ducks. We are also agisting some of our land and have 25 Angus cows. We started growing garlic immediately which was challenging as it was a huge learning curve. With every step of the process there are challenges but thanks to utube we are finding solutions. We have just harvested our garlic and getting our next garlic plots ready for this year’s planting. We have so many plans for this farm, but we just don’t have enough time to do it all ourselves. Some of the projects we dream of building are a Japanese onsen, a hobbit house and a pontoon. We also want to plant more trees on the property too. So many dreams, so little time 🙂 Derby Native Wildlife Last Active: active 14 minutes ago City/Town: DerbyViewFarming Methods: BiodynamicAccommodation Type: Separate BuildingMy husband and I own our property and run a center for rescue and rehabilitation of sick, injured and orphaned native wildlife. Animals in care vary daily, we care for a variety of animals including, joeys, kangaroos, wallabies, birds, possums, flying foxes, and the occasional crocodile. There is always something to do here. We are a nonprofit organization and require a couple or a group of two to help on our bush block. We are 20km from town and a short quad bike ride to the marsh or to some local fishing spots. It gets quite hot out here during the wet season but we work around the weather. Early starts are required most mornings to help feed animals. Jobs here will include, feeding animals, cleaning animal areas, washing, animal food preparation, maintaining fences, pens, gardening, household tasks, machinery maintenance and general odd jobs some of which require heavy lifting. There will be plenty of time to enjoy the pool and explore our unique sites of the West Kimberley We can provide an evening meal if required and we have a food prep area with microwave, fridge and camp stoves, an outside BBQ is available too. Accommodation is basic Donga style with a wardrobe, air conditioning, tv and a queen size bed. All linen and towels are provided. The Donga has a bathroom/toilet/laundry at one end and a food prep area at the other. We run entirely from Solar power so we are mindful of power usage and our internet is via a satellite. Mobile phone coverage is available however in this part of the country it can only be accessed using a Telstra SIM card. Ray and I are easy to get on with but we require the help of people who enjoy the peace and quiet of a natural isolated bush block that are reliable, hard working, compassionate and can work unsupervised. People that are able to be here for a longer stay will get preference over a short stay as it takes time to learn how to manage the animals and the animals build a special trust with their carer. We can ensure a very unique and memorable stay. Please check out our Facebook page Derby Native Wildlife and message us if you are interested. I am more than happy to send you some photos and info. Cootharaba Lake Retreat - A Place to relax and Learn Last Active: active 1 hour, 33 minutes ago City/Town: Boreen PointViewFarming Methods: PermacultureAccommodation Type: In Our Home, Separate Building, Caravan, BYO AccommodationHello this Kate and Big Al here. We are happy to welcome you. Lake Cootharaba retreat, our suburban Permaculture garden and retreat is situated in Boreen Point, a small village surrounded by the beautiful biosphere region of Cooloola National Park, on the shores of the stunning Lake Cootharaba and 1/2 hr from Noosa. Our garden has evolved organically over the years according to permaculture principles and ethics. A bohemian place with little nooks and grannies for reflection and relaxing. The garden is to be redesigned as a Permaculture teaching space. We also moved a small house onto a three acre rural property in Pomona, 20 minutes from Boreen Point two years ago. Half the property and the gardens around the newly established house are to be incorporated into a Permaculture design. So there is lots to learn and share and we are really open to learning too. With challenges due to Covid and difficulties with accomodation for many people we are open to longer stays and possibilities to earn extra income in the neighbourhood or on the property. We have a few types of accomodation to choose from. Hoping to hear from you. Best wishes Kate and Al. Slice of Heaven Last Active: active 9 hours, 50 minutes ago City/Town: Gunns PlainsViewFarming Methods: PermacultureAccommodation Type: In Our Home, CaravanHi there lovely travellers! Sam (37) Clara (31) and Reilly (1.5) here. While Reilly was just a twinkle our eyes, Clara and I spent 4.5 years travelling Australia in our awesome veggie oil-powered Landcruiser, searching for the most beautiful spots to set up camp and call home for a week or two. After our first 3 month tour of Tasmania, we just fell in love with the place, returning every summer for more of the same. Somehow we just knew we'd end up here. As we travelled, we gained a real appreciation for simple living and developed a taste for the best organic local food sourced from farmers markets as we went. This just helped fuel the dream of a beautiful camp to set up in permanently, and do our best at living a low impact, natural, self-sufficient, homesteading lifestyle. When 6 months pregnant, out of the blue, the bank of Dad called up and offered a loan to help make our dream come true. And we‘ve always dreamed big.
