Claire and Brian have retired to a bush block, a little less than 100 acres in the Lockyer Valley in Queensland. We have owned and lived on the property between working away for about 20 years. Now we want to continue to work on restoration and regeneration of the land. Claire is a beekeeper and potter and Brian, a retired engineer, is developing a small goat herd to assist with weed management on the property. We are interested in sustainable living, organic and biodynamic practices, but are very much beginners in the field. Brian is developing fencing, shelter and watering points etc for the animals & sustainable irrigation for plants and trees. Claire is developing a compost system, a rose (for essential oils) and herb garden and plantings in the apiary for the bees. As we have relocated to this section of the property the pottery and gardens are being re-established, so there is a lot of digging, weeding and planting to assist with. We do not require hands-on help with the bees, but assistance constructing supers, frames and extracting honey and processing honeycomb will be appreciated. We work to a weekly and seasonal timetable and would need help for 5 hours per day three days per week. We have an Air BnB cottage on the property and WWOOFers would be accommodated in this, all meals, internet, electricity, water etc included. We envisage a couple, with no children or pets. There is no public transport. We are a 15 minute drive from town so WWOOFers would need a car. We have one meat meal, one chicken meal and one fish meal per week. Breakfast, lunch and other dinners are vegetarian. For health reasons we do not smoke, nor can permit smoking on the property and volunteers Must Be Double Vaccinated.  Illegal drug taking will not be countenanced.

Thank you for your interest in volunteering. We appreciate help, enjoy young people and having an excuse to visit the beautiful and interesting places Adelaide, the hills and the Fleurieu Peninsula in South Australia have to offer with them. Due to the corona virus all our booked overseas helpers had to cancel their flight to Australia. The first time in Years we might at times be without helpers at all. Some local Australian helpers, unable to go overseas are now filling the gap which is very nice as we used to have overseas helpers only before. Please read through all the text below and only apply if you think this is for you. We live on a 2 hectare property with the young Angas River running through. We have organic gardens with fruit trees, all sorts of berries, vegetable gardens with free roaming bantams, big layer hens, a Muscovy duck, flower beds, lawns as well as two goats on paddocks and a cute house cat. 1 of our 4 kids, Katharina, is living next door with her partner. Bernward is semi retired but still runs a sustainable architecture and building consultancy business part time from offices attached to the home. Barbara works at the local hospital. We have been accommodating helpers since 2011  through various help exchange sites. If you want a break from travelling in a non judgmental  friendly  family environment and you are open and self-motivated, this is the place for you. This is not an action or party place but rather a place to relax and get creative with great light, & scenery for painting and photography, write and get back to nature. A big woodworking workshop invites creativity. Here  what Grace built in our workshop:   https://youtu.be/22iNA5Om6KU and https://youtu.be/BBJUSo0my8E ) I enjoy teaching woodworking skills to our helpers with the option to learn how to fit out campervans and tiny houses. A couple of times a week we heat up our Sauna and helpers are welcome to join. Help is always needed in the garden & paddock, picking berries & apples, looking after animals, weed control, making firewood, compost, cleaning up sheds & around the place, sometimes on a sustainable building site. We live 45min by car from Adelaide, 45min from safe swimming beaches & 45min from the surf, so we are pretty central. Accommodation  for 2 in separate stone cottage & own room in the main building. All share in home cooked evening meal. Mixed diet. No smokers please. Longer stays (min 3 weeks) preferred after initial few days. Please contact us via email only.

We love to get to know different people from other countries and are happy to teach you new skills. Virtue Farm is a 33 acre property overlooking K'Gari (Fraser Island), and includes 27 acres of remnant forest which will never be developed. The forest is an oasis for bird life and other animals and is great for walking.  We are 10 minutes from Hervey Bay and 10 minutes from the K'Gari (Fraser Island) barge that leaves from River Heads. We have an existing permaculture garden and are upscaling to small farm size. Our house block is 1.5 acres and backs on to the farm land.  We are in the beginning stages of becoming a commercially viable farm, so you will be helping to establish our property. We ask for five hours of volunteering per day, per person, depending upon the type of work and we can be very flexible in this regard. This could include farm work, vegetable patch work, caring for the chooks, moving small saplings, rock picking, planting, mulching, weeding, harvesting, fencing, land clearing and chopping wood and general home maintenance. If you have any specific skill base or interest we are open to negotiation. In return, we will supply an evening meal shared with us and you can prepare your own breakfasts and lunch from what we supply. Accommodation  for 4 in a granny flat downstairs, we have 1 room with two king single beds - can be joined to make a king, 1 room with a queen size bed. We can accommodate singles and couples. Mixed diet and a mix of vegetarian and meat based meals.  Whilst we have some capacity to cater for vegans, we will have to learn from you to assist us to cater for your needs and are willing to do so within limits. Internet access is available close to the house. Virtue Farm acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of the land, the Butchulla people, where we work and live, and recognise their continuing connection to land, water and community. We pay our respects to Elders past, present and emerging. While you are here, you should make time to go to K'Gari (Fraser Island). We are very flexible and happy to work around dates that you can access which are cheaper for you. Many of our volunteers have found great deals on the “Book Me” website. You would be welcome to leave your property here where it would be safe if you do choose to visit. Additionally, we strongly suggest that you plan for at least a one night overnight stay on K'Gari (Fraser Island); many of our volunteers have done the day tour and loved it, but all say they wished they’d stayed for longer as they felt like they only had a glimpse and not enough time to experience all it has to offer. Those people who stayed for two or three nights seem to have had the best experiences. We have some back packs and camping gear for volunteers to use (for a small fee to cover wear and tear) if they want to do the longer treks and hikes on Fraser Island. We are also aware that some companies do dual booking between the Whit Sundays and Fraser Island and they have been both popular and economical. As long as you book your trip to Fraser Island from Hervey Bay we are happy to drive you to where you need to be. If you book from Rainbow Beach, then you will have to arrange your own transport as it is about an hour and a half away. We have two bicycles and helmets which we are happy to share so you can spend a day or afternoon in Hervey Bay exploring and experiencing all that our fabulous community has to offer. There is no public transport to our home, but we are happy to drive into Hervey Bay so you can see our beautiful beaches, piers, parks and lifestyle. There are some lovely walks in the remnant forest on our block and it is always lovely to watch the kangaroos that visit daily. The volunteers that we have had so far have enjoyed their time with us and have been happy to join in with our family and extended family. You will stay in the two bedroom flat downstairs, with its own bathroom, kitchenette with microwave, fridge, toaster and kettle , dining area and lounge room. We have one room with a queen sized bed and one with two king singles. There is a TV, DVD player and some board games, card, paints and mindful colouring books. We also have heaps of Earth Garden magazines and similar to browse.

Located 20 mins walk to the laid-back picturesque old-world town of Mullumbimby which is now becoming gentrified. Buskers play in the main street and there are great healthfood shops, a farmers market and community gardens. The beach is 20 mins drive: Brunswick Heads or Byron Bay. I am a mature woman and welcome mature WWOOFers, as well as younger ones if they have some experience in  above tasks. Accommodation in tent or in house. All diets catered for. No smoking indoors. Prefer Wifi off by 10pm (in support of wildlife as well as my peace of mind).
