See Full Property Details for a link. Welcome, we are a 4 year old permaculture farm located near Yeppoon looking for people who are keen to learn about all things permaculture and who have a passion for sustainability. Our long-term goal is to create a self-sustaining community on the farm and we have made a huge amount of progress in our first few years of set up and operation. Our food forest will have up to 7 layers from canopy to root vegetables. Our market garden is something special with over 50 varieties of temperate/sub tropical/ tropical food plants. The property includes a number of other sustainable features. We want to be clear with you that you will be joining a working farm where we are trying to create a permaculture-based business model that can actually support itself without relying on outside philanthropy. This is a huge challenge in itself and requires a lot of hard work such as weeding, mulching, prepping garden beds, digging holes & fencing but we must remember we are in the foundational stages of creating something that will last and that has already touched many people's lives. We will do our best to teach you as much as we can about Permaculture and about the different aspects of our operation as we go along as well. The position is well suited to people who want hands-on experience growing their own chemical-free food and learning how to create a dynamic eco-business model that includes tours, events, a paddock to plate restaurant and education. This is a voluntary position with the expectation of 25 hours of work a week (Monday to Friday) in exchange for: - Modern single and double rooms available with attached en-suites - Some restaurant meals provided at our nearby paddock to plate restaurant - All other meals provided with the opportunity to prepare meals directly from the garden and learn about holistic food preparation methods - Wifi provided at the resort 4 kilometres away - Access to cars, bikes, a SUP and canoes to explore the nearby area - A yoga class each week in our nearby yoga studio - Landscape to explore over the 140 acre property - Endless love from our free range animals - 2 dogs, 3 miniature horses, 4 horses, 6 sheep, 18 cows, 3 pigs, chickens and ducks with more arriving all the time - 4kms from the beach and close to and National Parks, Great Keppel Island and The Southern Great Barrier Reef Requirements for helpers staying on our beautiful farm: - A passion for plants and a desire to learn about food systems - A minimum of 5 hours of work a day (Monday-Friday) - A minimum commitment of 4 weeks - The ability to shovel, weed and move compost - The ability to share a space with others and respect the upkeep our the living quarters The property really is something special and we are uniquely positioned being only 10 minutes from town and 5 minutes to the beach. Many people come for a few weeks and end up staying for 6 months or more. Volunteers get the unique experience of what it is like living in a small community. We see ourselves as one big family on the farm. Everyone is welcome to contribute equally. We live by the permaculture ethics of land care, people care and fair share.  Wherever possible, we reduce our waste, use available resources and eat directly from the garden. We are also now offering a 6 Month (Unpaid) Internship Program that will see participants rotate around a number of different departments of our business and receive one-on-one mentoring on how to set up and run a dynamic eco-business operation. City/Town: Boreen Point
Farming Methods: Permaculture
Accommodation Type: In Our Home, Separate Building, Caravan, BYO Accommodation
Hello this Kate and Big Al here.  We are happy to welcome you. Lake Cootharaba retreat, our suburban Permaculture garden and retreat is situated in Boreen Point, a small village surrounded by the beautiful biosphere region of Cooloola National Park, on the shores of the stunning Lake Cootharaba and 1/2 hr from Noosa.  Our garden has evolved organically over the years according to  permaculture principles and ethics. A bohemian place with little nooks and grannies for reflection and relaxing. The garden is to be redesigned as a Permaculture teaching space. We also moved a small house onto a three acre rural property in Pomona, 20 minutes from Boreen Point two years ago. Half the property and the gardens around the newly established house are to be incorporated into a Permaculture design. So there is lots to learn and share and we are really open to learning too. With challenges due to Covid and difficulties with accomodation for many people we are open to longer stays and  possibilities to earn extra income in the neighbourhood or on the property. We have a few types of accomodation to choose from. Hoping to hear from you. Best wishes Kate and Al.

City/Town: Kangaroo Valley
Farming Methods: Permaculture
Accommodation Type: Caravan, BYO Accommodation
My property has been different since 4th January last year when a savage bushfire wiped out every square cm of its 175 acres. I always wondered whether established rainforest would burn easily, and I learned that if the fire is hot enough, the inherent damp in the environment makes virtually no difference to how combustible it is. It is still beautiful with a new rugged kind of beauty - the beauty of a survivor. It is largely ancient rock formations, and you can see the rock so much more now that it isn't draped in greenery. It has been amazing to see how quickly life has sprung back, though, as green sprouts emerge and take off from every nook and cranny. Here as a WWOOFer you can experience a pioneering lifestyle, living simply, very simply, without power and with variable phone and internet access. Sleep in your own tent if it has sewn-in floor, or in basic safe shelter provided and help develop a fabulous rainforest property on which I plan to establish accommodation for homeless young people. Tasks? You name it . . . previous helpers have gained skills in natural building (both earth building and construction with timber-in-the-round and dressed timber), how to fell and bark trees, how to build a professional looking deck using felled timber for the structure - also sheds, tank stands etc. Help to create our Cob buildings - currently in the planning stage. Stay a while and learn how to build a Cob house!  It's not as hard as you think. Previously we were developing an organic garden following permaculture principles, however that infrastructure was lost in the fire and so now we are starting all over again. For the time being, the emphasis is on getting infrastructure rebuilt, so there is accommodation and water available for a start. Most of my WWOOFers have had little or no prior knowledge about building, and they have come away with good knowledge and skills in a matter of days or weeks. I'm happy to say they have frequently commented on what a great experience it was. I look forward to hearing from energetic, willing helpers.
