    Short Property Description

Spectacular property with private river access, wonderful views, bushwalking, wildlife, fruit and nut tree orchard.  No house to stay in yet, accommodation is in your own tent or campervan.

We live in Beechworth, so your stay with us may be divided between our home in Beechworth and our property in Porepunkah, 45 minutes away.

    Full Property Description

We have a beautiful property which we are working to improve with organic practices. We don’t live there full time, but spend time there as frequently as we can, and plan to build an energy efficient home in the near future.  Features include: bordered by the Buckland River with private river access, bordered by Mount Buffalo National Park, exceptional views and lots of space, bush walking on property, lots of bird and wildlife…

Accommodation is in your own tent or camper van, or we can provide a tent if needed. You need to bring your own bedding, whatever you need to be comfortable for the season. We have cooking facilities and a hot shower in the shed, but usually try to cook outside on the campfire or outdoor stove, to enjoy the fresh air and spectacular scenery.  The toilet is a composting loo, with a bush view!

Activities at the moment include: firewood collection, weed removal, pruning fruit and nut trees, harvesting chestnuts, making compost, building more veggie gardens, building greenhouses, building huts for accomodation.

When you stay with us at our home in Beechworth, we provide a room separate from our house (a bungalow) and our activities there include gardening, and some work on our house which we are renovating, for example painting.

In exchange for your accommodation and meals, we ask for your help for 4 hours per day of your stay with us, as well as contributing to all the normal domestic things like meal preparation, cooking and dishes.  We eat predominantly vegetarian or vegan, with meat or fish as options about twice per week.  We will discuss our daily work routine with you when you contact us, as this depends on the season, the weather, and whatever else we have going on at the time!

Bring your own workboots and gloves.  Initial stay 3 full days and nights, and longer stays negotiable.

    Organic/Biological methods we use

We havn’t used any chemical sprays on our land in the 3+ years we’ve been there, and don’t believe the previous owner did either.  We will continue to use organic and permaculture principles.

    Special Conditions

Our land slopes toward the river, so there is a bit of walking up and down hill with many of the tasks we do.  We enjoy this as an opportunity to become fitter and healthier.

Being within Victorias Great Alpine area, it gets cold at night!  Thermals, a good warm sleeping bag, hot water bottle, etc are recommended for your comfort for the months April through to October.

Snakes are around throughout Spring, Summer and early Autumn. We respect their place in our environment, and keep an eye out for them when moving around.
