Why I became a WWOOF Host
Mungumby Lodge has been a WWOOF member since its inception. When Hamish & Isabella took over the Lodge, we continued the membership and maintain this today 23 years later. We both love nature and love sharing our nature paradise with others. We are WWOOF hosts because we enjoy the engagement with travellers willing to learn new things, be part of a unique environment, improve their English and who offer skills and knowledge to assist us on our large property, of which we have given most of back to nature. We are small family team and WWOOF’ers become part of our family whilst they stay. So, if we go out to meet friends or visit others, we take WWOOF’ers along too. We also ensure that when we are able and time allows, we take WWOOF’ers on excursions to the coast, up the mountain on hikes or into town to see the sights or if the weather is right and the person is comfortable with boats, out to the Great Barrier Reef. We firmly believe WWOOF’ing should be enjoyable, an opportunity to learn new things or ways for both WWOOF’er and WWOOF host. WWOOF’ers are not a replacement for our paid staff. Our organisation utilises WWOOF’er for gardening in our unique environment, making or improving bush trails, assistance with environmental work on various parts of the property and being part of land maintenance projects. In WWOOF free time we have waterfalls, Croc free swimming holes, nature hikes on the property and we are near the infamous Lions Den Pub. Experience nature with us!
