I joined wwoof because it seemed like a good oppurtunity to find jobs that are unlike those I could get in my homecountry and connect to as well as to get to know the people of Australia and other working travelllers. Also I am a fan of the way it works meaning working for accommodation and not having to search job and accommodation seperately.

I would like to broaden my horizon before deciding a  job, and want to know the culture and life style of other countries. I'm interested in sustainable living and farming. I also want to meet local people, learn about different cultures, and improve my language skills.

We are a small scale farm located within the swan valley 25 min drive from Perth. Our primary area of farming is animal husbandry. We have cattle, sheep, pigs and chickens that we feed and look after daily. We also farm fruit and veg and produce wood fired bread that we sell at our weekend market stall at the front of our property.

I want to have fun cultural exchange with local people in Australia through WWOOF. Also, when I arrive in Australia, I need to get a tax file number, a bank account, buy a car, and other things to prepare for work, so I want to save money on rent until then.

Contributes to your 88 day visa. Gap Creek Farm is a small, tropical fruit orchard on 30 acres, cradled by the mountainous Cedar Bay National Park, with a river running through it. We grow rambutans, purple mangosteens, durians and more. The fruit trees and vegetable garden is organic, but not certified. Kangaroos, wild boar, rain-forest walks, swimming, fishing, beach. Currently building a tiny home. Work 4 hours. Cabin accommodation for 2. Shared meals, mixed diet. No smoking inside. Buses (Transnorth) from Cairns, Cape Tribulation and Port Douglas. Only a few km from the beach.

We live on a beautiful and remote property in far north Queensland. We also manage the property next door to us and adjoin Mowbray National Park, so if you like nature, lots of space, peace and quiet, then we might be the place for you. We are fully off grid (solar power, pump our own water and grow a lot of our own food). We manage the property purely for maximum biodiversity outcomes and use it for research, education and conservation. The property is not farmed. It is half rainforest and half dry land ecosystems and we have many walking tracks and swimming holes you are welcome to enjoy. We also have platypus in the creek for those keen to spot one of Australia's coolest animals. Our work is usually 2hrs in the morning and two hours in the afternoon (4hrs daily) in exchange for three wholesome meals a day, accommodation and satellite wifi. We usually have a thriving organic vegetable and fruit garden that we produce much of our food from.

It‘s the best opportunity for me to travel environmental friendly, cheap and learn about gardening 🙂 especially make internship experiences, because to pay for an accomodation and food costs more money i‘ve get from the internship. Also i am grateful for the opportunity to stay for a while at „green“ farms. Morover help you with your work and learn from it makes me happy 🙂

We have a large suburban block in a beautiful seaside area adjacent to Park Beach, a popular surf Beach. We grow our own vegetables, make compost, mulch and biochar and are constantly developing our gardens. We also have an extensive, primarily native, garden which needs tending from time to time. We have recently commenced landscaping a new area having large rock walls built.

My block is on a wild river, only 20km from Gordonvale on a sealed road, and 40km south of Cairns. On the other side of the river is Wooroonooran National Park, a World Heritage Rainforest, about the same area as the Daintree Rainforest. Being centrally located, the block is almost equidistant from Cairns/Babinda and the Tablelands. Life is subject to the elements, the mood of the river, sun and rainfall patterns. Wildlife abounds, and includes a large variety of bird and aquatic life, moths and butterflies (I breed Cairns Birdwings), insects, reptiles, several species of marsupials, and brumbies (wild horses). I do not have pets, as nature provides endless companionship and entertainment, for which I'm very grateful. UPDATE #3: Due to Tropical Cyclone Jasper on 13th December 2023, the bridge between our area and the nearest town was swept away - this was planned for repair in the dry season which didn't start until June 2024. We were traveling via boat/kayak across the river until February 10th 2024, when a footbridge was installed. The temporary road bridge was installed in late July 2024, and preparation for a more permanent bridge is well underway. These events illustrate the occasional difficulties experienced in the Cyclone season (November to May each year).   While half of my life was spent living and working in the Pacific, and the other half working in Renewable Energy in Australia, I love this connection to nature, and its wildlife. I also have adopted some of the extended family/community aspects of island cultures, which some people from western cultures find hard to adopt and understand. I have lived here for over 20 years, and grow a range of tropical fruit and vegetables for my own and friends consumption. Many years ago I planted a number of rainforest trees such as lemon myrtle (which makes a great tea), davidsons plum, lemon aspin, and evodia (which attracts the Ulysses butterfly). There is also a well established vine which hosts the caterpillar which becomes Australia's largest butterfly, the Cairns Birdwing. The house is entirely off-grid and is solar powered (I'm an electrical engineer who started in renewable energy in 1974), and I deal with my own water supply and waste treatment. Where possible I've reduced my usage of fossil fuels, so have no backup generator, and run an electric mower, electric sports motorcycle and occasionally, an electric chainsaw. My sports are almost all human or natural energy systems powered, and have been through my life. Two self contained, open plan, single bedroom houses are joined by a solar walkway. Both have verandah's with a view of the river. I sleep in the newer house, but use the kitchen/lounge in the older house, which has accomodation for WWOOFers in an adjoining bedroom. The older house also has the shared bathroom/ laundry attached to it, and has access to the original outside toilet. There is limited internet access via satellite, for email only, for an hour each evening, by prior negotiation with the host. Mobile reception is OK for SMS out on the road, but is patchy for voice. A landline is available for local calls, also by prior negotiation. Compared to an outer island in the Pacific, communication is very good - compared to a big city in most parts of the world, it is slower.

The Avocado Tree Farm is an 80 acre, certified organic avocado farm located in the Mary Valley, Queensland. We - John and Julia Tidy are the owners and live here with our 21 year old son, Nic, and our 19 year old daughter, Catherine. We have two kelpie dogs, Pip and Evie. We also run sheep, cattle and chickens. There is a tiny home and a cabin on the property which we Airbnb. Should you be interested in helping on our farm, your accommodation would either be in the house or a room a short distance from the house. Both have their own en-suites. Duties are varied and could include: helping on the orchard, picking and packing avocados, gardening, mowing, whipper-snipping and cleaning. John and Julia love to get to know their guests and are very welcoming as they have travelled in the past. Some of our previous guests have become like family and have returned to visit or have hosted Catherine in Europe when she did an OE. You will be welcomed and given opportunities to help out in jobs you prefer and you will have time to visit the local area.

Skills I Want to Learn:
I joined WWOOF because I have a deep interest in both animals and agriculture. I grew up in the countryside of Japan, where I helped my family grow rice and vegetables from a young age. These experiences made me comfortable with farm work and taught me the value of working with nature. I’m also a member of my university’s equestrian club, so I truly enjoy taking care of animals and spending time outdoors. While there are WWOOF programs in Japan, I wanted to experience life on a farm overseas to challenge myself and broaden my perspective. I also hoped to improve my English and communication skills by working closely with local people. Unlike studying abroad in a classroom, WWOOF gives me the chance to connect with others through real, shared work. In the future, I hope to live and work abroad, and I believe this experience will help me take the first step toward that goal.

i am hoping to spend most of this year on the move, making my way towards Darwin where my brother is staying. my aim is to come to understand Australia by its land and i think that wwoofing is an excellent way to move about the country while getting to know it from the locals like yourselves and not being restricted to some of the urban hubs. i love to work outside and with my hands weather its working on the land or making a space look beautiful.

We have come out of early retirement to start up our Boutique Potted Christmas tree farm on small lakeside acreage on the beautiful Atherton Tableland near Cairns in Far North Queensland. Lake Tinaroo is recognised as a world class fishery for large stocked Barramundi fish and social water sports. The Tableland area has a showcase of scenic waterfalls, locally grown produce, restaurants and interesting must see villages. Its Avocado and other tropical fruits and vege farms provide plenty of casual work in season. We have a detached shed with couples accommodation including kitchen and bathroom as well as a singles caravan and or second room in the residence.   Transport would be an advantage.   Read the WWOOF Blog about us HERE
