We offer great food (sorry no special diets) with interesting conversation in a beautiful valley within bike riding distance of Cygnet and the beach. We offer advice on purchasing your own property, cookery, charcuterie-in autumn, market gardening, cookery, preserving, cider making and animal husbandry. We farm organically and try to live as sustainably as possible, we employ principles of permaculture. Volunteering includes feeding poultry & animals, planting, weeding, mowing, compost making, brewing, fencing, occasional animal slaughter (only if you are interested) and processing & General Farm Maintenance. Accommodation for 2 singles within our home, or a couple in our caravan attached to the house, see the picture. Shared meals, mixed diets. Can P/U from Cygnet any day or Hobart by arrangement if flight arrives before 3pm between Tues-Thurs. Please don't come to us directly from overseas or if you are ill, as I am in the high risk group for respiratory problems. WWOOFers must be prepared to work independently at times. No smokers. Minimum stay 2 weeks. We prefer longer stays by WWOOFers with a genuine interest in agriculture. Initial contact by email, please. WiFi unlimited. If no answer leave a message slowly, stating your name and number and we will get back to you. We want to leave our land in a lot better state than we found it. We are supporters of the Tasmanian Land Conservancy and The Bob Brown Foundation which both preserve old growth forests and special areas of value to flora, fauna and eco-systems. In the long term we are looking for someone to park a tiny house on the property and take over all the gardens, land and animals to allow us more freedom to travel and spend time with our families but still have somewhere to call home.

There are three reasons why I started WWOOF. The first is because I wanted to improve various skills such as agriculture and cooking. The second reason is that I want to interact with many people around the world. The third is to train my English skills.

This is our second caravan trip, our first being in 2011, traveling and WWOOFF-ing with a 6- and a 1.5-year-old for 9 months. During that time, we enjoyed the hospitality of 3 hosting families and the opportunity to spend time with and learn from them. Finding ourselves in areas we hadn’t visited before, and doing things we had never done. We have subscribed to WWOOFF as we welcome the opportunity to meet new people, discover new places, and doing whatever is most helpful.

I would like to work in agriculture or research regenerative agriculture in the near future. Therefore, I joined WWOOF to learn about organic and permaculture farms, how they are actually managed, what is difficult about them, whether there is room for improvement, and what is the most important thing.

Strathbogie Estate is small vineyard and we are setting up a garden based on Permaculture principles. Strathbogie Estate titleholders Bruno and Karin’s aim, is to create a haven to not only enjoy for themselves but to share with the surrounding and greater community. Using their very own single vineyard, brother (Bruno) and sister (Karin) manage the end to end development and trade of their finest harvest. As Bruno focuses on the marketing and trade of the wine, Karin lives and works on the property producing a distinctive, organic foundation. Keeping the same winemakers since the establishment of the vineyard, Bruno and Karin understand the importance of experience and expertise in delivering an outstanding product. Through environmentally sound and sustainable practices the vineyard remains in balance with nature. Strathbogie Estate is committed to growing healthy and beautiful tasting grapes that produce exceptional wine. We optimise the potential of terroir expression in the wine by ensuring every vine is hand pruned and grapes hand-picked. Due to its tendency to rupture the grape berry, machine harvesting is regarded as unkind on vines. Once a breach of the grape has occurred the skin phenolics leach into the juice. As a result, a loss of delicacy in the flavour occurs. This particularly recognized in the more delicate wines.
