‘Yulunga’ is an eco-arts community in the lush hills of Barkersvale, an hour inland from Byron Bay, near Nimbin & Lismore. Yulunga faces the Border Ranges NP & is surrounded by subtropical rainforests, native animals and amazing birdlife. Our community consists of organic gardens, exotic fruit orchards, musicians, artists, environmental activists & passionate gardeners. WWOOFer volunteering includes tending gardens, orchards, building & nursery work. You can swim in the local creek after work. We welcome earthy, hardworking & self-motivated people. Accommodation is for 1-3 in our home or in a shack with own outdoor kitchen. Vegetarians and Vegans can be catered for. We usually negotiate length of stays after an initial visit of 2-3 days. We can pick up from Nimbin or possibly arrange pick up from Lismore.

The future of our planet depends on restoring soil health and reducing the risks of monoculture farming, which relies heavily on chemical fertilisers and GMO seeds promoted by monopolistic agribusiness. I am interested to learn more about the best practices in organic, permaculture and sustainable agriculture as well as gain skills to become a self-sufficient homesteader by helping and learning from experienced farmers around the world.

I am eager to learn new skills and broaden my horizon. In fact, that is the whole reason I started travelling in the first place. I want to try new things, gain new perspectives, connect with other cultures and drink in every lesson that no school can teach me. WWOOFing seems like a great way to travel and explore Australia, while also contributing something. Living, learning, and working with Australian families allows you to get to know the country beyond the big cities and gives you unique and invaluable experiences that you cannot make anywhere else.

After I finished University, I wanted to take some time away to experience something different. I wanted to experience new places and cultures and spend some time outdoors volunteering. Wwoofing is a great way to do this. I enjoy spending time in nature and learning new things and I am fit and strong. I have spent much of the last 9 months wwoofing in a variety of different countries such as  Germany, Sweden, Finland, New Zealand and now Australia. It had been a really valuable and amazing experience.

I want to join WWOOF because I will be travelling to Australia for my working holiday in a few weeks. I already have some experience working on farms and I am a very nature-loving person. A few years ago, I worked on a organic farm for two weeks as a part of a school project. I took on tasks such as weeding, harvesting and chopping wood. I also fed animals. Furthermore, in the ninth grade, I helped out on a different farm every Tuesday for a few weeks, harvesting apples, pressing apple juice, harvesting vegetables and preparing them for sale. In the 11th grade, as part of a school project, I completed a small farming machine driving licence.

'Little Farm' occupies 17 acres on the eastern edge of Trentham in Central Victoria, one and a quarter hours north west of Melbourne. The area is known for its rich, red basalt soil, high rainfall, cold winters, beautiful gardens, tall trees and potatoes. It also grows superb blueberries and a small experimental patch is well established here, yielding a crop saleable at local farmers markets. The property also has extensive ornamental gardens under development and all horticultural pursuits have been conducted chemical free for the past ten years. Extensive mulching, organic fertilizers, worm farming and recycling are all used as restorative practices to improve the soil and plantings over time. There is a swimming pond for cooling off when the weather's very hot. Trentham has a supermarket, two hotels, great cafes, a neighbourhood centre, library, tennis courts, public pool, primary school and oval. All within an easy walk. I have two boisterous, (but not big) dogs.

I started with a pioneering spirit, dug the stump holes, planted the trees. Over a decade on, I have created spaces I wish to share and explore more.

I joined WWOOF because I’ve always wanted to experience farm life firsthand. Singapore is a fast-paced city, and I rarely get the chance to slow down and connect with nature. Through WWOOFing, I hope to step away from the hustle, learn new skills, and immerse myself in a different way of living. I look forward to gaining hands-on experience in sustainable farming, understanding the local culture and life, and building connections with people who share their knowledge so generously.

A friend of mine recommended WWOOF to me, and after learning more about it, I became really interested. I’ve been living in Australia for several months now, and I want to experience a different kind of life—closer to nature, with hands-on work and meaningful cultural exchange. I think WWOOF is a great way to meet local people, learn about organic farming, and see parts of Australia I wouldn’t normally get to visit. I also want to improve my English through real conversations and daily life, not just in a classroom. Living and working with a host family sounds like a unique and rewarding opportunity. Since my friend had a great experience with WWOOF, I feel confident that I will too. I’m excited to learn new skills, help out, and create good memories while working towards my second-year visa.

Why I want to join WWOOF, my boss was a member of WWOOF before and he recommended me to join it. Also, my parents used organic foods or cosmetic products when they grew up. I have worked at the organic farm company for two and a half years. I understand general agriculture and organic thinking by my experiences. However, the company that I have worked for was not my ideal farming system such as using available pesticides as much as possible, most of the vegetables grown are thrown away without composting. I want to do more eco-friendly farming. Since I have learned about regional collaboration at the university, I have been curious about local people’s lives. I want to stay with local people to not only know that area’s climates but also to interact with their local cultures. Learning many various lifeworks is important for me because I want to have my own organic farm in the future. And of course, I will share my experience or knowledge, so, I hope to collaborate with you and create new ideas.
