Skills I Want to Learn: Organic Practices, Permaculture/Biodynamics, Biodynamics practices and techniques
I joined wwoof because I think the best way to visit and live in a new country is to also learn new skills. Sustainable living is something I've been wanting to learn how to do better. I hope to learn more practical skills and learn about the process of living on a farm. Especially if it involves making genuine connections along the way!

This past year in school, I had a class dedicated to Climate Science and Social Change. We learned a lot about how our current agricultural practices are destroying the environment and through all the depressing conversations I realized I wanted to experience non destructive farming and learn more about sustainable practices. But besides from the climate aspect, I have always enjoyed being out in gardens, hiking, canoeing, camping, and just being in nature. WWOOF would give me the opportunity to do all these things while working at the same time.

I want to fulfill my dream of working with animals. I want to experience things that I can't do in Japan. And I was curious because my friend said it was fun.

Belinda has a long-term dream to work and live close to nature since little girl. Ricky enjoyed the city life. After we met, Ricky was convinced by Belinda to leave city life. We feel our heart is closer and closer to the nature, and highly appreciation all the hard work of supporting the food chain, especially health and organic food during the world pandemic. We strongly feel the farmers are not paid fairly to their handwork and their contribution was not recognised properly by the society. However, they are still trying their best to offer the most invaluable effort to us. After discussion, we decide to join WWOOF to seek the people who share similar ideas, and we may support each other in the future. We are beginners of farming, and we know that we need to learn a lot. We do appreciate that the opportunity from the hosts offer to us.

New experiences excite me, they are what I work for. In my perspective, WWOOFing offers a chance to simultaneously work and experience on a greater level than is usually possible. I believe that sharing a place can act as a catalyst that brings people together by creating common ground between individuals that may not have similarities in other aspects of life. I think that WWOOFing provides a unique opportunity to soak in the knowledge of the skills that organic farms depend on for standard operation while introducing a (literal) foreign body into the operation. I strive to be helpful both physically and in spirit in everything I do, this would be no exception. I see this program as an opportunity to be a part of a symbiotic relationship. In the ever-changing landscape of the world, I feel that is increasingly important to connect with others who differ from myself. I hope that through WWOOFing I can gain a greater understanding of how and why places and people function as they do.

I graduated with a focus on natural sciences in June 2023 and became my general qualification for university entrance. Since I do not want to study straight away but want to do a gap year, WWOOFing and backpacking are very suitable. It has always been my dream to travel to Australia and immerse myself in life there, which is why I think WWOOFing is perfect for that. I hope that with WWOOF I will on the one hand learn more about nature and animals and on the other hand immerse myself in cultural life in Australia and meet nice people.

As mentioned previously, I have wwoofed before in both Australia and New Zealand and enjoyed learning new skills and seeing many areas through the eyes of the local people. It was great to make new friends also, and I now look forward to more experiences wwoofing in Western Australia.

I heard about WWOOF from friends and they recommended it. They thought it would be something that I would like to do. I have my own small rooftop garden including a vegitable garden; all biological and organic. I’ll hope to learn new skills and methodes I can use myself one day.

I will go to Australia on a working holiday visa. I wanna get work in the ocean! for example diving shops and skipper, fishing boats as I have a skipper’s license. I'm looking for accommodation until I find a job. It would be a great experience to learn about Australian nature and countryside culture.
