The Avocado Tree Farm is an 80 acre, certified organic avocado farm located in the Mary Valley, Queensland. We - John and Julia Tidy are the owners and live here with our 21 year old son, Nic, and our 19 year old daughter, Catherine. We have two kelpie dogs, Pip and Evie. We also run sheep, cattle and chickens. There is a tiny home and a cabin on the property which we Airbnb. Should you be interested in helping on our farm, your accommodation would either be in the house or a room a short distance from the house. Both have their own en-suites. Duties are varied and could include: helping on the orchard, picking and packing avocados, gardening, mowing, whipper-snipping and cleaning. John and Julia love to get to know their guests and are very welcoming as they have travelled in the past. Some of our previous guests have become like family and have returned to visit or have hosted Catherine in Europe when she did an OE. You will be welcomed and given opportunities to help out in jobs you prefer and you will have time to visit the local area.

We are brother and sister who run a cattle enterprise and also chickens. I work on the farm full time and my sister is a health care professional. Our property is 100 acres and we lease other land to further support our enterprise. Due to the impact of the 2019/2020 bushfires we have not been able to get on top of some of the bushfire remediation work and need some help with this.

I want to experience Australia in the most authentic way by working outdoors, learning new skills, and connecting with locals. WWOOF is a great opportunity to contribute through handson work while gaining insight into sustainable farming and rural life. Sustainability is not only part of my work but also something I value in everyday life. I enjoy being active, working as part of a team, and taking on new challenges. I’m looking forward to meeting great people, learning from their experiences, and making unforgettable memories along the way.

We would love to work on an organic farm here in Australia and do fruit picking or animal work, for example. As we only worked in a Cafe before, broadening our horizon and doing physical work, WWOOFing is a thing we can’t stop thinking about since we first talked about work and travel. It would be so nice to experience the working environment on a farm as we are always excited about new challenges and meeting people.

The reason why we believe Wwofing is for us is because of our background working outside, as Landscaper we learnt valuable skills that could relate with the job and were not afraid to live remotely, coming from France and NZ couple who lives opposite side of the world.

I guess I joined this mainly from the desire of jumping into the unknown. I love heartfelt interactions that I’ll remember for the rest of my life and I hope to experience some of that again, just to remind myself there are good people on this planet again 🙂

I fell in love with Australia and would love to stay another year so I am trying to complete my 88 days! I also have a huge love for gardening and always have things growing in the veggie plot so I am excited to get my hands dirty and be out in the land.

I became a WWOOFer to gain a basic knowledge of organic farming since I'll start working at an agricultural machinery company in April. In Japan, I helped with a sunflower farmer, a fruit tourist farm, an onion farmer, an organic vegetable farm, and so on. I love farming because it allows me to move my body while being in contact with nature. In 2022, I have registered with WWOOF in the US and spent two and a half months on a farm in Hawaii and two weeks in Florida. They were very good and impressive memories for me. I look forward to having various experiences in Australia, too!

I would like to meet new people, learn new skills and also make my self available to help others on their properties to build on the land and develop off grid or farm properties. Partly because One day I want one of my own and partly because I want to be in the world engaging and learning., I also would love to learn more about running a farm, looking after animals and building complex structures.

I want to join WWOOF because I’m looking for new and meaningful experiences in Australia. I’ve always been interested in Tasmania and dreamed of living there. I also hope to see the aurora someday. Through WWOOF, I want to experience a lifestyle that I could never try in Japan and learn more about nature, farming, and different cultures.

I want to spend time in nature and connect with people from different cultures. I’m excited about the opportunity to support local lifestyles as a WWOOFer and to learn about the culture through real-life experiences. My English is not perfect, but I feel happy when I’m able to communicate with people who speak different languages. Through working as a WWOOFer, I hope to gain new and wonderful experiences.

I joined WWOOF because I see it as a wonderful opportunity to experience real Australian life, improve my English, and connect with people from different backgrounds. I hope to contribute a few hours a day helping my host, while also having some time to dedicate to my studies and to managing my company remotely. I am also excited about building new friendships, learning new skills, and living unique and meaningful experiences during this special time in my life.

I arrived in Sydney in November with a friend, and we worked in a restaurant for two months. Now we are in Melbourne, but city life doesn’t suit me. I am unhappy here, and this is not the life I came to Australia for—I didn’t come all this way just to do what I was already doing in France. My friend and I don’t have the same expectations, and I feel the need to go on an adventure on my own. I want to explore, reconnect with nature, and have a more meaningful experience.

It's a great experience to be able to immerse yourself in Australian life. It's a wonderful opportunity to discover a new culture and a different way of working, as well as to improve our English skills. Moreover, it's a pleasure to offer our help and share our own culture with others. WWOOF is a good platform to potentially access what we are looking for.

I joined WWOOF, because I think it´s a great possibility of meeting new people and do something meaningful while travelling. In fact I love animals and nature, so I would really enjoy working together with animals on a farm outside, I couldn´t spend my whole working time inside an office for instance. I also believe that WWOOF is a good opportunity to exchange cultures between hosts and WOOFers, so it´s actually an enrichment for both of the sides. But especially for WOOFers, it´s a welcome change from travelling. For example, I want to drive up the east coast by bus for approx. a month, and afterwards I´d love to once again have some structure in my day and work and do something meaningful. Not least of all Australia is quite expensive, so WWOOF is a great way of saving some money while experiencing the "real" lifestyle of an an aussie farmer. But what is most important for me is that WWOOF is the possibility of being taken and accepted into a family while helping them with their farm.

WWOOF Australia acknowledges the Traditional owners of the land on which we work. We honour the ongoing cultural & spiritual connections, heritage, customs & beliefs of Aboriginal people & pay respect to Elders past, present and emerging.
