Short Property Description

Grace Residence, Paradise House is a large straw bale, earth rendered pavilion style homestead surrounded by a lush one-acre, 26-year-old established sub-tropical food forest and a 3 million litre picturesque dam. We have 5 acres, with handy Zone One and Zone Two food gardens and a productive orchard with a large variety of common and exotic fruit tree guilds, berries, and nut tree guilds. Our homestead grazing paddock is just under 2 acres. Our surrounding farm is 66 acres and is used to graze jersey cows, horses, miniature goats, and chickens in chicken-tractor. Our animal systems are often set up on a rotational or holistic management basis.

We are located in the Sub-tropical bioregion of the beautiful, fertile, Byron Bay hinterland on an organic permaculture demonstration farm with a Permaculture Education Centre and Camp, commercial kitchen and campground facilities on suite.

You have the option of camping on platforms in the campground or joining us at Paradise House, our residence as a guest border.

The property has been the base for the International Permaculture Research Institute and is now an Eco Hamlet. The Channon village is just across the river. The Channon is home to Australia’s original art, craft, and farmers market, which we enjoy every month.

We are surrounded by three beautiful rivers and have proven to be floodproof due to our extensive water management and water channeling systems across our 66-acre property. The iconic village of Nimbin is only 20 minutes away and as professional artists and musicians, we enjoy the creative and permaculture-friendly lifestyle and international expertise of both permaculture and the arts that thrive in this region.

Why I became a WWOOF Host

We love sharing our wealth of experience and knowledge with anyone who is passionate about Permaculture and organic food production systems, food forests, agro-forestry and homesteading skills, and prepping. It brings us joy to mentor others and to mutually share our lifestyle and our information, education, and life skills.

Working on the land together is very rewarding and at the end of the day when we see tangible results from our group efforts, creative projects, and design-based ideas and techniques for self-reliant living. We enjoy delicious organic freshly harvested food and we love to cook.

We will try to accommodate your interests and unique skills where appropriate. The combined skills that Patricia and Graham can share with you, include our experiences from working as lecturers, educators, consultants, business managers, entrepreneurs, community and property developers who are professional creatives with a range of knowledge, skills, and experience in landscape and interior design, filmmaking, music performance, and songwriting.

We have a large working art studio and music room onsite at Paradise House. We have two mini schnauzer pups who love their life and their animal companions at Paradise House, Zaytuna Farm.
