I am looking for a woofing opportunity for at least three weeks, with a preference for a longer stay that may include some paid work. I am not currently equipped with a vehicle, but I am available to start from November and am happy to adapt to the needs of your farm or project. I would love the opportunity to contribute to your work and be part of your community. Thank you for considering my application.

I joined WWOOF Australia to see more of this country, and see it through the eyes of a local as well. I am interested in sustainability (and sustainable agriculture particularly) and I think WWOOFing would offer a great opportunity to learn more about the topic.

The main reason I’m joining WWOOF is to gain new experiences. I’m excited to meet inspiring people and learn about their way of life. I’m also eager to pick up new skills, especially when it comes to farming techniques.

I joined WWOOF to have a more immersive experience while traveling around Australia. We love nature and long for a rural lifestyle. Since Taiwan is a small island with its main industry focused on electronics, there aren’t many farms there. So, we came to Australia to immerse ourselves in the farming environment and are eager to learn new things. Also, we think it is a great way to build connections and make friends with the people here.

Coming to Australia, I see WWOOF as a perfect opportunity to connect with local communities, learn hands-on about organic farming, and contribute to meaningful work. I’m excited to learn new skills, meet people and understand the challenges and joys of farming. After living for several years in the city, I'd like to contribute to something that aligns better with my values of environmental care, good health, and respect.

Our "farm" is 64 hectares. We purchased this property as a "downsize" from our career certified organic farm, which we had run for 47 years. On "Murramia" we have cattle, sheep, hens, a beehive and a garden for beauty and food. We have begun to develop a whole environment design to our new farm with the installation of a dam, associated overflow control drain/swale and a direct seeded treebelt of native species. Our animalls came with us from our previously certified organic farm. We were able to get "Murramia" as a certified organic farm but have decided to dis-continue maintaining certification. We do still continue only using organic practices. Ron has received numerous international and national awards for his sustainable environmental design of agricultural landscapes and recently has become involved in sustainable urban designing using the same whole of environment approach. We have 10 hectares of native bush which if any of our animals are so found within the fenced off area do so under great risk of being "exiled". Suzanne is into granite rocks and patchwork!

I'm serious and a hard worker. I really like traveling abroad. In particular, I have wanted to go to Australia since I was a child. Recently, I have become interested in life in Australia, and have wanted to go on a working holiday someday. However, when I was browsing the internet, I found out about this system called wwoof and thought I would like to try it. I have always loved animals and nature, so I wanted to spend my life doing farming, which is something I don't usually do. I watched a lot of wwoof videos on the internet. It may be difficult to work, but I want to do my best for the experience.I would love to hear about the wonders of agriculture. I am also very interested in Australia's lifestyle, culture, and history. So, I would like to learn about these things by experiencing farming and getting to know you.

Farming Methods: Organic
Accommodation Type: Separate Building
We have a 20-acre farm with around 80 fruit trees, 20 hens, 2 cows, and a large organic vegetable garden. We are partly self-sufficient. We tend to work in the morning after breakfast and there's always a variety of tasks that need doing. As the soil in St Andrews is quite poor, we have built up the garden beds over time, with dedicated compost making.  The compost bins needed turning often. We gather all the dry leaves, fresh lawn clippings and kitchen scraps to layer our compost, a bit like making lasagna. The chook houses often need cleaning, or the cages modified. Fruit trees, especially in summer, need mulching and watering. For the practical person, there's an opportunity to design new sheds, or finish working on the Folly, a wonderful outdoor area that needs a few walls. In summer, we grow an amazing variety of vegetables, including 6 types of tomatoes. All the San Marzano tomatoes need processing into passata. We also have seasonal gluts in plums, apples and pears, which also need processing into jams, wine, or chutneys. We always have a good lunch and retire for the afternoon. Rae makes wonderful sourdough bread every second day. The food is mostly vegetarian, with an occasional fishy dish. If you eat meat, there's a BBQ on site. Guests live in a separate, modern self-contained studio, with bathroom and kitchenette. The views are vast, the bird visitors frequent. We have resident kookaburras, rosellas, and king parrots who come by daily. There are kangaroos roaming in the front paddocks. We are 7 kms from Hurstbridge station which runs to Melbourne every 30 minutes. We are happy to pick you up from there or drive you there if you need to travel to the city. We live within walking distance of the famous St Andrews Market which occurs every Saturday, and the St Andrews Hotel is close by, a venue for blues music. There are good walking tracks in the district. Many years ago, we hosted WWoofers from Italy. It was a great opportunity for Rae to re-engage with Italian speaking, and our Italian WWoofers were keen to practice their English. We like hosting couples. I look forward to answering any queries you may have about staying with us.

We acknowledge the Kurnai Brayakoloong People who are the traditional custodians of the land on which we have the privilege of living and working, and waters and creatures therein. We pay our deepest respects to their Elders past and present and acknowledge that sovereignty was never ceded. Our place is designated as Land for Wildlife and it has just enough space for a very small herd of black alpacas, some black australorp chickens, a couple of orchards, a permanent spring-fed creek and an old well-kept, solar-powered, rain fed farmhouse surrounded by gardens. To inch closer to our heart-goal of restoring most of the land to the damp forest and the safe haven for endangered species it once was, we have been using direct-seeding and tube stock of local indigenous flora.

WWOOF Australia acknowledges the Traditional owners of the land on which we work. We honour the ongoing cultural & spiritual connections, heritage, customs & beliefs of Aboriginal people & pay respect to Elders past, present and emerging.
