We decided to join WWOOF because it seemed like the perfect blend of adventure and meaningful work and aligns with our values! After years of studying biology and environmental science in classrooms, we’re ready to step outside, experience real farm life, and learn in a hands-on way. We’re excited to meet passionate hosts, hear their stories, and be part of their day-to-day. It’s a fun opportunity to connect with nature, contribute to sustainable living, and make some great memories along the way!

I am currently unemployed as I have taken a gap of work since finishing University and graduating in July. Some of my main hobbies at the moment are taking morning walks, learning the piano, learning to draw, and spending time with my friends online and playing games together. I always look to help out at home with tasks inside and outside the home such as cutting the grass and maintaining bushes. Also helping with general maintenance tasks such as helping dad with the car, cleaning the walls of the house, or even cleaning the moss from the paths outside of the house. When working, (in a job or in education) I always look to perform and accomplish the work/task at hand to the best of my ability.

When you travel you see the amazing Australian countryside, lots of wildlife and meet people from all over the world in hostels. But usually you don't meet people from the country you are visiting. I joined WWOOF because I wanted to get in touch with the local people and live and share their lifestyle and culture. I have done WWOOFing in New Zealand and had many great experiences. I hope to learn a lot about Australian nature, culture and lifestyle and finally answer the question: What is it like to live in Australia?

City/Town:
Farming Methods: Permaculture
Accommodation Type:
Located in Macclesfield, Vic, Royal Meadows Farm is conveniently located between the Dandenong Ranges and the Yarra Valley and is surrounded by rolling hills, farms and natural bushland. An easy and scenic drive to delightful towns such as Olinda, Sassafras, Gembrook, Yarra Glen, Warburton and Healesville, Royal Meadows is the perfect base from which to explore this beautiful part of Victoria. The main activity on our 20 acre farm is the Royal Meadows Equestrian Centre where we agist and train horses. The horses are managed according to equi-central and land regenerative principles. We grow our own hay for the horses and all manure is composted and used either in the veggie gardens or spread on the fields to help replenish the soil. In addition to the horses we also run a number other farming activities – namely breeding a small flock of Suffolk sheep, growing a small orchard, vegetable gardens and raising bees. Careful management of cross grazing different livestock means deep-rooted, healthy pastures, which also leads to rich organic material for gardens and trees. Royal Meadows is built on principles of sustainable living, regenerative agriculture, self-sufficiency and equi-centric horse training. The property is powered by off-grid solar electricity and sustained with the help of captured rainwater. Bush areas have been reserved for native wildlife and as such Kookaburras, rosellas, blue wrens and cockatoos are common and the property is also home to wombats. Don’t be surprised if you also see kangaroos, soaring wedge tailed eagles and the occasional echidna. The accommodation consists of a cosy two-room wing of the house which has both private and shared entrances, a bedroom, private bathroom and lounge area with small kitchenette.

For me, it’s not just about traveling but also about learning practical skills, understanding sustainable lifestyles, and working alongside people who share a passion for the environment. I love the idea of exchanging knowledge and contributing to a meaningful project while being part of a community.

I was engaged in agriculture throughout Japan. In this moment,I come to want to experience agriculture not only in Japan but also outside of Japan. So I felt that Australia was the best choice because of its proximity to Japan and relative safety. And I also like visiting abroad.I like to dive into unknown world.I want to communicate with people in different countries.

I am interested in living an eco-friendly life and want to learn about sustainable farming. By joining WWOOF, I hope to get practical experience on an organic farm, understand how to live with nature, and learn more about sustainable farming methods. WWOOF is a great chance to meet farmers and experience different cultures. I believe living in a new environment will help me see things in a new way and build stronger connections with others. My family has a farm, and I have worked in agriculture before. I have physical strength and good teamwork skills, which I want to use to help on the farm. I also believe that gaining more farming experience will help me grow personally.

Skills I Want to Learn:
We’ll be able to fulfil a big dream of ours in the next couple of months, which is to stay for a lengthy period of time in our favourite country, Australia. Of course, travelling to different places will be a huge highlight. However, we also would like to use the first couple of months to do something different. We both really love the idea of being around and staying with locals for a while, learning about their lives and becoming part of their community, even if it’s just for a couple of weeks. It would also allow us to use and brush up our English as much as possible, which would be a really nice plus for us. Well, and the Woofer program seems to offer a great opportunity for exactly that.
