I want to get out into australias countryside as all ive seen so far is the city. To meet different sorts of people and discover a different lifestyle. I love to be outside and to work with plants and animals so this seems like the perfect opportunity for me.

One of the biggest reason to join was to be qualified for the visa extension. However, one of my goals is to work or get involved in something in a winery and farm (I am a huge fan of good wines). I see that this is a beautiful opportunity to step into the agriculture or wine industry to learn about them. Plus, volunteering is something that attracts me. My father is a part of Rotary community, and I sometimes helped with translating (Eng-Jpn) and activities. I believe in humanity and good things, I’d like to take this opportunity for my personal growth and to learn so that I’ll be able to share with the world.

I'm joining WWOOF because I want to learn about nature, farming, natural processes and I want to meet people with similar curiosities and passions! I've been an inner city dweller for the past 4 years and miss the connection to the magic of nature. WWOOF seems like a great opportunity to learn from people with abundant experience about things like flower farming or how to grow vegetables or take care of horses, whilst getting to experience life in different expressions. I'm keen to explore Aus in a new way!

Julius wants to do an internship/hands-on consultancy project for his master's degree that needs to be 3 months. We'd love to do this through WWOOF or similar. Carlijn has been wanting to WWOOF for years and now finally is the time! Carlijn is interested in learning (ethno)botany, permaculture, self-sustaining and/or conscious and harmonious living, local ecology and local knowledge of living with the earth, anthropology, surfing ;), and is open to basically anything else you have to offer. Our experience: CARLIJN: Has done a lot of different jobs from a young age. Worked so many hours on minimum wage that by 18 she could finance an 8-month world trip. Not afraid to work hard and get her hands dirty! Experience in gastronomy, tutoring, direct sales, science writing, organizing and travel guiding for large groups (e.g. trips to Russia and France). She studied psychology and specialised in cognitive neuroscience (cum laude BSc graduate), worked in a cognitive neuroscience lab for a while at New York University. An abundance of scientific skills here but longing for some hands-on experience. JULIUS: Has previous Workaway experience in a resort in Japan, tasks like painting, varnishing and cleaning. Julius studies bio-inspired innovation (MSc, and previously finished medical biology BSc). He did lots of lab work and now needs a change of scenery (i.e. daylight) to complete his programme. Skills: science and science writing, life cycle analysis, ecological quickscan, circular business model canvas, writing advisory reports, computer programming, microbiology research, teaching.

Singapore, being the hyper-urbanised city-state that it is, has very few areas reserved for farming, and the farms which do exist are always designed to maximise floor area and efficiency. Through WWOOFing, I hope to learn what farming is traditionally like, be it within gardens or with animals, and spend time away from the hustle of the city in the peace of a farm. I have spent most of my life thus far studying or on the computer, and I am extremely keen to try something new 🙂

I have been interested in agriculture for a long time, and recently I learned that there is something called wooof. After I return to Japan, I am thinking of joining wooof in Japan. I want to have a relationship where we can have a positive impact on each other.

My initial plan when coming to Australia was to move to Melbourne, however after visiting a friend in the Northern Rivers for a few weeks I have completely fallen in love with the area and have decided that this is where my heart is set on being right now! After 11 years living in a busy city in England, I have been immensely enjoying the slower pace and more rural lifestyle that Northern NSW has to offer and am hoping to find somewhere to settle here for a while. In the meantime, I'm hoping to be be given the opportunity to WWOOF in order to give back to the land and local communities, meet wonderful people with similar values to me and take some time to just 'be' in the area and with the land. I love the idea of WWOOFing and feel that it is incredibly kind that so many people out there want to be hosts and hope to also be able to give back in order to show my thanks.

City/Town:
Farming Methods: Permaculture
Accommodation Type: Caravan
We have 43 acres just 20 minutes from Bundaberg and 30 minutes from the coast. We practice permaculture and are in the early days of establishing our property - there's only so many hours in the day and we need helping hands! We are fully off grid and therefore independent with power (large solar and battery system) and water.  We have composting toilets and live in a tiny Queenslander that we relocated a couple of years ago. We are a vegetarian couple and will provide healthy vegetarian meals. If woofers would like to eat meat, they will have to purchase and cook it themselves. Dinner is a shared meal cooked by the host but breakfast and lunch are self prepared (in our kitchen with food provided by us). We provide a comfortable caravan with a queen size bed.  If friends require separate beds, this may be able to be arranged (subject to stay duration and timing).  Visitors will use the bathroom at the house, which is very close.  We have Starlink internet in the house and basic mobile service (Telstra) in the caravan. We have geese, ducks, chickens and dogs so woofers need to be confident with these animals. We also have cows but woofers will not be doing any cattle work. Primary work will be building vegetable gardens, mulching and fertilising the orchard, cleaning up gardens and swales, assisting with small construction jobs, animal husbandry, building chicken coops and planting natives for regenerative work. There will be no machinery use, this is done by the property owner. We are a married couple in our 50's and welcome people from all backgrounds.  We are very LGBTI+ friendly. No drugs, no smoking.  Moderate alcohol use is ok.

Love meeting new people and trying new things! I've heard great things about the WWOOF experience and keen to have a break from teaching in 2025. Hoping to visit the Byron Bay area and make a contribution.

WWOOFing for me is about achieving a strong bond between me and my host and at the same time, between me and the land I'm being trusted to care for. To me it's all about the relationship and that can't be achieved in just a few days. When I go WWOOFing, I like to learn about the land and about my host. I like to listen, learn and explore. I like to spend time doing a job once and doing it properly. I want to stress again the importance of values alignment. I talk a lot about values because that's a good way to achieve compatibility.

One important thing is to learn more about farming and to get in contact with local people. If I can learn a few new things about planting, permaculture or working with animals I would be very thankful. Also I have to watch my money so WWOOFing is a good possibility for me to stay longer in Australia.

I have always wanted to visit Australia, and hopefully, I can experience the local lifestyle. Since I have lived in the city my whole life, I would love to be surrounded by nature. Also, I love studying English. I spent a year in Vancouver last year and realized that I really enjoy living in different countries. I would love to learn more about farming life and improve my English skills.

Skills I Want to Learn:
I am interested in the idea of exchanging labour for means of subsistence as proposed by WWOOF. I think it is good to be able to receive direct payment for my labour in the form of food, accommodation, etc. For me, this is more direct and exciting than a company paying wages. As an international student in Australia, I have always respected traditional culture and enjoyed being exposed to various cultures around the world. As a farmer, I also want to experience and learn about different ways of life. I like to help people and chat to different people.

After school finishes, I'm thinking about starting WWOOF from January next year. I don’t have any experience in farming, but I’m really interested in organic farming. I'm interested in learning how to grow and make healthy food. I'm also keen to know how Australian farmers live. In the future, I want to live a simple life, working in agriculture and doing massage therapy.

WWOOF Australia acknowledges the Traditional owners of the land on which we work. We honour the ongoing cultural & spiritual connections, heritage, customs & beliefs of Aboriginal people & pay respect to Elders past, present and emerging.
