Despite growing up in the metropolis of London, I spent much of my childhood on the Isle of Skye, Scotland - a location integral to my identity because I believe it set the foundations of me having a profound connection with the land and the nature that inhabits it. A connection that arises whenever and wherever I'm fortunate enough to be amongst nature, a connection that brings clarity to the mind and forces me to be present in the moment. I find myself most grounded when out in the natural world; I am drawn to the water and the wildlife that feeds from it in the most invigorating way. With any WWOOF opportunities, I hope to continue to strengthen this connection and give back to the earth. I find myself unsatisfied with the notion of conforming to a life of conservatism, which the education system indoctrinates students into believing is the right path for a life of comfort and security. After many years of battling with mental health, I am now on my own path of discovering/cementing my values and redefining what “success” looks like to me. Starting with achieving and maintaining peace of mind, finding love in community and stimulation in human relationships. I believe we as humans have so much to learn from each other and the environments we make our homes in. I have always had a strong inclination to learn and develop skills, not only of physical action and intellectual practice but also inter-personal skills that will make me a better person to know and to be. I hope to achieve greater awareness of different lifestyles, build resilience and meet a range of people I wouldn't come across without the WWOOF opportunities. I truly want to immerse myself in these new experiences to gain the most out of them. To quote Jon Krakauer from one of my favourite books, ‘Into The Wild’ : “It is the experiences, the memories, the great triumphant joy of living to the fullest extent in which real meaning is found”

Traveling around a country is nice, but it's even nicer to get to know the people and the culture. I think a WWOOF is the best way to do that. The mix of work, leisure time and contact with locals makes it particularly interesting for me.

I have been in Australia on a working holiday for about a year, and I have been working on farms the entire time. As my final experience here, I would like to enjoy a more relaxed and truly Australian lifestyle, spending time with nature and animals. That is why I decided to join WWOOF. I look forward to this experience and appreciate the opportunity. Thank you very much.

There were two reasons why I decided to become a woofer. The first was that I had a woofer host family at home, and although I was very young, I was able to interact with different cultures and discover many new things. First, I wanted to learn more about organic agriculture and the primary industry, which is essential for us all, by interacting with people from different countries. I want to acquire a lot of values and knowledge during my time as a woofer.

The reason I applied for the Australian wwoof program was because I wanted to actually go to Australia and have new experiences, such as learning about the way local people live and eating food that is only found in that country. Also, I wanted to improve my language skills by actually going to an English-speaking country, and I also wanted to learn about the values and ways of thinking of people from various countries by talking to them.

I joined WWOOF because I think it's a great way to meet locals, help out where needed and get to know the culture and country from a different point of view than when you're just travelling through.

I joined wwoof to give me the opportunity to see more of Australia then just the regular tourist attraction and see the local area and everything it has to offer. I’m always interested in learning something new and I think wwoof is a great place to get the chance to learn something new and meet good people along the way

I'd like to live and work in harmony with nature, communicate with people in a natural and open way, and live a healthy life. I also want to improve my English. I'm sensitive to chemicals like synthetic detergents or fragrances etc. and I love natural things, so I'm happy to work on organic farms.

Because of the fact, that I have been involved in farm life from an early age, I would like to get an impression of this way of life in Australia. I am curious to see what differences and similarities there are. I hope to gain many impressions during my stay and learn new aspects of farm work/ agriculture. I am always open to new tasks and would like to learn more about gardening and planting, as I have little knowledge in this area. I‘m looking forward to work and live together in harmony, with a lot of joy and mutual trust.

The first time I heard about WWOOFing was from a friend of mine I met during the Erasmus student exchange. He explained it briefly to me and I was immediately drawn to the idea of doing it myself. The possibility of staying abroad completely immersed in a different culture, working on a farm, as well learning about the various methods of organic farming directly from experienced hosts. It sounded absolutely perfect! The part that I love the most about visiting other countries is getting to meet new people, learn about their culture, experiences and everyday lives. I am a student and I try to use every opportunity that we, as young people have, to learn about the world. That is why WWOOFing seems like a perfect choice for me! As a member of the younger generation worrying about the environment I know that broadening our horizons on the more eco-friendly methods of living our lives is crucial, as climate change effects impact us more and more every year. Helping eco-conscious and organic farmers feels like the best way to learn and thus make more conscious choices throughout the rest of my life. As I have written before – nature is very important to me - most of my hobbies are inherently connected to it. That is why I also want to learn how to be able to help preserve it. I am also a very enthusiastic person who is always up for a new challenge and gaining new skills.

WWOOF Australia acknowledges the Traditional owners of the land on which we work. We honour the ongoing cultural & spiritual connections, heritage, customs & beliefs of Aboriginal people & pay respect to Elders past, present and emerging.
