Table Manners and Etiquette Tips for WWOOFers in Australia

As Australians we eat Continental English style, which is different to many countries in the world; we follow England and their table etiquette rules. This means our fork goes in the left hand and knife in the right hand, with the tines of the fork always over and never up. Laying your knife and fork in the middle of your plate with the blades of your knife facing in is our signal to show that you are finished your meal even if food is still on the plate.
This should really go without saying, but remember to thank whoever has prepared your meal, even if it wasn’t to your taste.

How to be a great WWOOFer & build friendships forever

Be Prepared Ask your host what they think you will need beforehand – some hosts provide work clothes, others don’t, so it is better to ask. Hats, sunglasses, sunscreen, boots, gloves and torch are always useful. A phone card and internet dongle. Telstra has the best mobile coverage in rural areas. Always prepare before you […]
Hows and whys of WWOOFing

In the days when we worked from printed membership applications, WWOOFers would often answer this question on the application form: “Where did you hear about us?” The usual response amounted to “word-of-mouth”. For example: I heard about WWOOFing from my mother, whose friends all did it. A friend of my sister recommended it. A friend […]
