Short Property Description

Tellurian Fruit Gardens is a fruit orchard at the foot of Mt Alexander. We have beautiful views of the valley and a big dam for swimming in the summer. TF Gardens is just one element of the Harcourt Organic Farming Co-op. The co-op also hosts some veggie growers and a micro-dairy.

Full Property Description

Apart from running the orchard, where we grow stone fruit, apples and pears, we also have geese, ducks and dogs. We often preserve fruit in various ways like canning, juicing, jamming and making vinegar and alcohol. Theres a mountain bike park next door, excellent mushroom foraging nearby, old gold mining ruins to explore and plenty of opportunities for bushwalking.

When I am not working on the farm or selling fruit at the farmers’ markets, I like to spend time in the local community at music/art events, visiting friends for dinner and creative pursuits, visiting Melbourne or attending food sovereignty events (I am a member of the Australian Food Sovereignty Alliance – we fight for farmers and eaters rights in Australia and globally).

Accomodation is in a clean, powered caravan with wifi access. There is currently no running water (there is a jerry can you can use). The caravan is next to a house where you can use the bathroom and laundry). I also live in a caravan so it’s basic but you have everything you need. In hot weather, meals are often had on the grass outside.

WWOOFers are expected to contribute to cooking and cleaning duties. They will have to take it in turns to cook meals or for themselves on occasion with food that is provided.

TF Gardens is a gay / queer friendly farm and does not tolerate discrimination of any variety.

Organic/Biological methods we use

Certified organic with an understanding of permaculture principles. We like to encourage diversity and ecological function. We take advantage of integrated farming systems (eg dairy cows and pigs in the orchard) to build soil and grow healthy trees.

Skills WWOOFers can learn here
