Farming methods
Short Property Description
300 acre farm on the foothills of the Snowy Mountains, using regenerative farming principles to restore the land. We are just starting out, running 40-50 head of cattle, and are planning to get pigs, chickens, ducks and geese. We also endeavour to run a sizeable compost system using food scraps from nearby restaurants, and to establish a worm farm for fertilizer. We don’t use any chemical sprays – we dig out all the weeds and take them to the green waste at the nearby dump. We are combatting erosion by building leaky weirs and planning to dig swales to capture water, and planning rotational grazing to help build soil, grow grass, and manage weeds. We don’t vaccinate our cows, nor do we give them any grain or antibiotics.
The Stay
Why I became a WWOOF Host
To share our experience of growing a farm with people who are interested and looking for a great community to be a part of and to stay at a nice place as an exchange for their knowledge, ideas, innovation and hard work.
