Short Property Description
Buffalo Farm in Darwin River, 1 hour from Darwin
Full Property Description
This is a commercial buffalo farm. There are around 150 buffalo and half a dozen horses. The work would involve feeding the buffalo and horses in the Dry Season, fixing fences, gardening, spraying weeds and general property maintenance. It would be useful, but not essential to have experience riding quad bikes and driving a tractor. Food and accommodation will be provided, but you will be expected to cook your own food. The farm has internet access. Bicycles can also be loaned out.
The farm is close to a local shop and pub (Darwin River Tavern). There is plenty of bird life to see on the farm and many other wildlife including dingoes, reptiles, possums. Berry Springs is 15k away where there is a beautiful swimming hole with waterfalls and nature trails. Also in Berry Springs is the award winning Territory Wildlife Park. There is a monthly market on the last Sunday of every month.
Organic/Biological methods we use
Fertilizer is harvested from the buffalo droppings. Plasterboard off cuts containing gypsum are sourced locally to provide the buffalo with essential calcium and sulfur by dissolving them in their water troughs. Hay is produced on the property to provide the buffalo with food during the Dry Season.
