    Short Property Description

Hi we are a commercial Macadamia farm. 10mins from LISMORE, 20mins from Byron Ballina Airport, and 40mins from iconic Byron Bay, on the East Coast of NSW, Australia.

    Full Property Description

Our property is situated in the beautiful Northern Rivers hinterland. An area that was once part of 7500 ha, of subtropical rainforest. Affectionately known, as The Big Scrub. Unfortunately less than 1% remains.

Part of our mission here at Big Scrub Macadamias, is to regenerate the landscape with a rainforest planting, riparian waterway regeneration, a food forest, and in conjunction with the Australian Macadamia Conservation Trust, an Arboretum of heritage macadamia trees.

Along with planting out the thousands of macadamia trees, we have grown here on site, for our own orchard. There is lots happening, we would love some help!

    Organic/Biological methods we use

We grow worms, compost, soil fertility, healthy veggies for our kitchen.

Nurture the landscape, native bees and biodiversity.

We love farming. We also love cooking, good healthy food, from scratch.

    Special Conditions

We are only 10mins from shops, however the bright lights of city life, really isn’t our thing. Usually trying to only go to town once a week.

We are a non smoking household.

Why I became a WWOOF Host

Over the years, we have enjoyed the company of lots of backpackers.

We have attended weddings, met new babies, shared beautiful moments, with couples we have introduced. Grown cherished friendships, with people we never would have met. Farming can be consuming, extended travel, almost impossible.   Backpackers, have opened our world.

Hopefully we have gifted them something equally special, by sharing our home, our day to day life, our vision.

I often joke, they can watch the orchard grow with us, via Google Earth!

Changes to Backpacker rules as few years ago, threatened to ruin this wonderful opportunity. Wwoof Australia, helps keep this experience possible.
