Short Property Description
We are on a 2.5 acre permaculture property in the quiet, picturesque Lower Barrington in NW Tasmania. We are Kirstie and 3 teenage sons, chickens and guinea pigs. We are a Christian family, but you won’t be expected to participate in theological discussions unless you want to!
Edible crops include apples, cherries, apricots, peaches, pepper berries, blueberries, jostaberries, feijoas, mulberries, chestnuts, lemons, vegetables, herbs and more.
We recently added chickens, which began laying at Easter. Our beehive ensures we have excellent pollination of our crops.
Organic/Biological methods we use
I spray the peach trees with a copper based spray annually (in late winter) for curly leaf. That’s it. No other sprays are used-not even herbal. My year round population of fairy wrens and seasonal bird visitors are my pest management system.
We do have to net the apples and cherries as we don’t produce enough for us and the birds and possums just yet.
