Short Property Description
A small property in the Huon Valley with large vegetable gardens and a flock of ducks and chickens. The house – which wwoofers will share with me -is a small Tasmanian style weatherboard and has lovely rural and distant mountain views.
Full Property Description
The garden produces a lot of vegetables for home use and local sale. There is a small orchard. I often make preserves and jams from the produce. A wwoofer might be involved in the following activities: mulching, preparing garden beds, weeding, tidying, organic fertilizing, composting, propagating by seed and cutting and caring for seedlings, planting vegetables, planting and caring for shrubs and trees, various aspects of poultry care, general outdoor maintenance, woodstacking. I can teach pruning techniques and orchard maintenance. I hope to erect a small greenhouse to raise seedlings and extend the growing season during 2020 and also install some kind of watering system. The property is a smallish three bedroom home and I have one queen bedroom available with shared bathroom. I can only accommodate one person at a time at the moment – or possibly a couple for a short stay – as the property uses tank water. The property is situated 10 minutes from Huonville where buses are available to and from Hobart. I can pick up in Huonville and on some days in Hobart by arrangement.
Organic/Biological methods we use
I use organic methods of gardening.
Care needs to be taken with water usage (unless of course it is raining heavily!!!). The property is wood heated and there is one small and friendly dog on the property and care needs to be taken so that he does not get out of his fenced area.
