Full Property Description
Happy Pig Farm is in South East Queensland on the Granite Belt. It is famous for its wineries and cool climate, and, unlike the rest of Queensland, has four distinct seasons with cold winters, crisp, sunny spring, warm summers and amazing autumn with all the colours you can imagine.
We are a small bio-dynamic farm only 3km from Stanthorpe. What all our WWOOFers enjoy about being here is the variety of experience and the food.
We are primary producers of paddock raised pork and grass fed lamb. Our market gardens supply many of the ingredients for our Paddock to Plate meals we sell locally and on farm. As a Farm Tourism business our Farm Stay accommodation and Farm Shop cater for families and tourists looking for something different.
As a WWOOFer on Happy Pig Farm you become part of our family. Many of our past WWOOFers have returned many times and are part of our Global Family. You will get to help with animals, market gardens and all general activities on our bio-diverse little farm.
Organic/Biological methods we use
Even though we are not registered as an organic farm we follow the same principles. Our farm is bio-diverse with every aspect of farming linked to each other. We don’t use a tractor, we use our pigs to till the soil. We don’t use artificial fertilizer, we use manure from our sheep, pigs, horses and chickens. Our markets gardens supply ingredients for our Paddock to Plate meals. We don’t use pesticides nor artificial fertilizers. Our dams are finally full again (following years of drought) and provide water for all our livestock and toilets. And the free range chickens supply the eggs.
Stanthorpe is a very multicultural little town especially during the harvest season. It is a popular destination for tourists because of its climate.
What we are well known for is our Good Life Good Food and Good Company – and we have WiFi and good mobile reception. What more could you ask for?
We don’t have any ‘special conditions’ other than you want to be here for the right reasons. To us the right reasons are to experience life on an Australian farm and be a Willing Worker on an Organic Farm. We understand it takes time to learn new skills and that this may be your first time on a farm. You will need to be willing to get your hands a bit dirty and get up early to feed the animals. It goes without saying that illegal drugs and drunken behaviour will not be tolerated. Any person found to be using illegal drugs will be reported to the police and asked to leave.
During the COVID19 pandemic we will accommodate you initially in accommodation which is separate to the house. We will ask that you complete our COVID19 prearrival questionnaire. If there is any reason to believe you may have been in contact with, or have symptoms of, COVID19, you will need to provide evidence that you are not currently infected with COVID19 prior to coming to our farm. During the first 2 weeks on farm we will ask you to self isolate by remaining on the farm and to observe all the social distancing health regulations. You will commence work on arrival but in keeping with all Qld Health regulations.

Why I became a WWOOF Host
We have previously been WWOOF hosts to hundreds of young and not so young people from all around the world who have become our extended global family. For us it is as much about the added help on our farm as it is the opportunity to ‘travel’ internationally without ever leaving home. We love the multicultural experience and the opportunity to share our ‘fair dinkum’ Australian farming lifestyle with others.
