Hi there! My name is Mel and I’m a 26 yr old local from NSW.
For the past few years I have been harbouring a desire to learn about permaculture and self sufficient living. I am eager to immerse myself in a different way of life that is more in tune with nature and its processes and see this as a really healthy thing to do.
I would like WWOOFing to add to my growth as a person and broaden my understanding and knowledge of self sufficiency, nature, wellbeing and community.
I am willing to put in hard work and persistence and enjoy the satisfaction of seeing your work add to a larger project and process (in my last job Of five years as a postal worker, I worked outdoors carrying heavy loads on my back, on the hottest days and the rainiest days of the year, so I do have experience pushing myself like this and getting the job done.)
I’m not a big extrovert, I’m pretty easygoing, sensible/grounded but still like to have fun. I have a few creative hobbies including sculpting, drawing and creative writing which I work at slowly, and I enjoy reading widely, fact and fiction, mostly interested at the moment in psychology and anthropology and art.
While WWOOFing, I hope to meet inspiring and open minded people to connect with or simply coexist with. If you’re a host, I am looking for people who are mostly just kind, respectful, and good communicators who are happy to let me have quiet time (when not involved in the farm work or group get togethers) to meditate or go for walks etc. by myself as well. (I’m a pretty low maintenance guest.)
Type of work: In particular I’d love to learn about working with plants, and am very interested in sustainability, permaculture and organic farming methods. I want to get my hands dirty, work hard physically, learn about using tools, learn about building etc if the opportunity presents itself, so that I will have confidence and knowledge for my own future projects and independence. (While I am a petite-framed woman, who will not be able to do some things that a stronger and larger person could, I will do what I am capable of and hope to gain confidence and strength with experience, and I like to think I bring a good attitude with me.)
I also love the company of animals and am open to working with them, so long as you are okay with me being a total beginner in this area (apart from having a cat at home.) In my current job I work outdoors and in all weather conditions so you know that I’m used to pushing myself mentally and physically to get the job done.
Dates: Free from April until end of July.
