Why I became a WWOOF Host
Becoming a host is something we have been considering for several years, and is not something we’ve rushed into. We both have some health issues, so haven’t been able to physically work and achieve all we had hoped to when we first bought the farm. We really need some young bodies and minds. I have to admit, that we are both quiet, introverted people, so the idea of having strangers through our home was daunting at first, but we’re willing to give it a try. We spent the first year working on the house (think all possible forms of insulation to keep us warm through the winter), and while it’s not finished, it’s now at a stage where I hope visitors would be comfortable. While I understand that volunteers might come to learn from us, I’m really looking forward to learning from others, and what skills and strengths they might bring. We can certainly teach guests about gardening, orchids, pruning, the importance of native habit, and the local area.
