Hello, I’m Arno, I’m 20 years old. I’m an Australian citizen, but have grown up in New York City. I just finished my first year of study at Cornell University in the United States, where I was studying environmental science. I have decided to pause my studies to take a gap year in light of the Coronavirus turmoil.
I enjoy playing basketball and am also a big NBA fan. In the past two years, I’ve had a passion for ceramics.
Recently, I worked for a family friend on a fencing project where we constructed electric fencing in the woods next to several of his pastures so that the cows would be able to get shade among the trees.
Why I joined WWOOF
I joined WWOOF for two main reasons. First, in my study of environmental science and climate change, I’ve realized how large a role agriculture plays in carbon emissions, especially through land use changes, in a way that is often overlooked.
Given the time I have, I wanted to experience a more in depth perspective into the agricultural industry.
Second, I spent half of my 3rd year of high school at a selective semester program on a farm in Vermont (the Mountain School), and really loved the experience. I was able to better understand the context of my food and the implications of the food choices I make.
