Brian and Lisa are both High School teachers in NSW. We are in our mid 40’s and are active, outdoors types who consider ourselves ‘people persons’. We are both taking a year off work to travel the country in our off-grid caravan and engage in new experiences.
Brian has a permanent job as an Industrial Arts teacher at a local High School and enjoys building and making things with hands. He came to this job that he loves a little later in life, after working in various customer service roles, including corporate and retail travel agencies, Hi-fi and Electronics and various jobs whilst travelling the world, all involving customer service. When he’s not at work, he loves to get out in the surf (when it’s on!), take hikes in the bush or camp under the stars.
Lisa also has a permanent job as a Music teacher at another local High School and enjoys working with students and other teachers and getting her creative fix in a collaborative, positive environment. She is a creative person who loves being involved in her local community musical theatre as well as spending as much time as possible outside – working in the garden, riding her bike, and walking our cattle/kelpie dog.
We have spent several years travelling around the world, including 3 years backpacking when we were in our early 20’s, and several trips since. Highlights including working on a ranch in Wyoming (USA), trekking in Nepal and an overland truck trip through Africa. We are both very practical, hands-on, easy going folk.
Our home in Wollongong has a thriving garden consisting of a Beehive, 3 good sized veggie plots, six lovely laying hens, a variety of fruit trees and a dog and cat.
Why I joined WWOOF
During our year of exploration, we hope to have many adventures and meet a variety of likeminded people along the way. We plan to volunteer and work through the WOOFING community, where we can learn new skills and be a part of a community instead of just passing through. We are excited!
