Skills I Want to Learn:
I have joined WOOF to experience farm work on my own. I find the concept of Woof interesting and different. It is not the typical student exchange nor is it a leisure holiday. I hope for a unique experience that I will remember forever. I want to learn how organic and sustainable farms work and hope to learn Tips and Tricks from my hosts and experience Australian culture in another way.

It’s a safe way meet the people I enjoy meeting. I love travelling but not into the drinking partying life style that gets portrayed as backpacking. I want to learn and enrich my life with people and skill I learn and stories I can tell.

I currently work at a utilities company and it's helped me to learn that I love working outside in the fresh air and getting exercise as I work. I want to spend more time with plants and animals and learn more about how to look after them, specifically ducks and goats if possible -- I'd be interested in owning both someday, but want some hands-on experience with them first. I grew up with chickens and a horse. My parents used to make their own grape juices, applesauce, fruit preserves, bread, ketchup, and even a syrup made with bark from a hickory tree! I'm interested in doing more sustainable cooking, eating, and preserving, and working with ingredients from the soil to the table. When I was in Singapore a few months ago I visited a bar that uses as many local ingredients as possible to design cocktails native to the area, such as jackfruit or hibiscus flavoured drinks. They also used locally-sourced products to make their coasters, cups, and most other things in the bar! I really admire that philosophy.

To intersperse my time writing and researching with more physical and social activity. To be with like-minded people in rural areas and to help people on the land with their self-sufficiency, care of the environment and food production.

A few years ago, I spent a few weeks working in a wildlife rehabilitation center in South Africa and it was amazing. Living in the small, flat country of the Netherlands, I am looking forward to immersing myself in a completely different, open and more rugged environment to work with nature and animals again. WWOOFing seems a great way to discover a new place; while working hard and learning about my surroundings and the people, and hopefully making new friends along the way. I am looking to work for a few weeks in one place, explore the area, and continue to travel more of the country. I would love to work with or around animals, food and wine, or with ocean/lake/river related projects. However, I am broadly interested and open for experiences that had not yet crossed my mind. I'm not afraid of getting dirty and although do not have much experience in farming, I am looking to learn more, and I generally learn fast.

When one of our friends back home told us about her WWOOF experience in Tasmania we instantly knew that this is what we want to do too. We applied for a working holiday visa with a main goal to learn and gain experience rather than earning money. We'd love to contribute and bring some joy through music and good food while doing so 🍀

I would like to join WWOOF because personally, the best way to travel and share different cultures is to go to local people to get out of their daily comfort. In addition, I love farming, animals and working outdoors, so participating in farm activities would be an opportunity for me to acquire new experiences in this area and to discover exceptional places. Having a background in the environment, I could also bring my knowledge but also my culture. I want to meet people from other countries of the world to share our experiences.

Skills I Want to Learn:
I traveled alone to Australia for two different reasons. First I would like to learn English fluently and to experience interesting conversation on a daily basis and connect the language to memories and people instead of text books. The other reason is that I just want to be away from home and my comfort zone. I want to discover new people, a different culture and new habits. Get to know other perspectives and ways of live. Just traveling to a new country seems not enough. You have to get to know people first in order to understand them better. Hostels are not cheap in the long run and you get to know a lot of people but often only superficially and for short periods of time. With WWOOF I hope to come to a new place and immerse myself in your world. To work, get to know people and gain new experiences.

As far as I can remember, I have always wanted to go on an adventure and have always been afraid to take the plunge. As if I told me that I first need to have a 'concrete' professionnal situation in Switzerland before venturing myself abroad. That and other things, I guess! Now that I'm nearly 40, I realize that I have assimilated a lot of professional experiences without finding the good one. And as I was giving up a teacher’s study programm newly begun, I felt a great need to get closer to nature. Taking a step back from my life and getting closer to more basic aspects of life itself in the same time. It’s now or never ! I said to myself. Precisely because I have no 'concrete' situation, paradoxically. And no child nor constraints preventing me from taking off. The idea of wwoofing imposed itself quickly. By providing a reassuring context to my journey (versus backpacking alone for 2 or 3 month) and giving it a strong meaning: participating in various useful activities on organic farms and really meeting some inhabitants of the area (I’m sure that staying and working somewhere for a while is the best way to do it and to experience other cultures and ways of life). Moreover, given the good reputation of Aussies and my desire to learn English, my interest in Australian wild life (so crazy and fascinating!) and the fact that it's summer at this period of the year (without speaking about the incredible opportunity of being 'upside down' and spending Christmas in t-shirt), I didn’t need much time to choose my destination.

I loved to Wwoof during my year in NZ, having lots of unforgettable meetings and memories, sharing moments with mindful people. I also loved the unexpected, like brewing my own beer or catching a huge Kingfish for my first-ever fishing experience... I want to help some hosts to realize their projects and get deeper into some issues. I want to take time to write as well on a personal project that needs calm and focus to mature.

I have thought about it for a long time, because I am interested in expanding my horisont and because I have always been happier in the nature. I really want to gain experience and knowledge along the way and to meet new animals and people. Perhaps I even figure out that this is really something for me?
