Skills I Want to Learn: Organic Practices, Animal Care, Dairy, Wine making

We want to get our hands dirty and meet some Aussies! We really wanted to live with Australians instead of just travelling as normal tourists Mikkel was in Australia three years ago in Sydney and Brisbane, but really wanted to come back. Anders has wwoofed a lot in New Zealand and had some great experiences. We think it is a great way to meet people and see what the communities are like.

I love being outside in general and i would be very happy to be directly in the australian nature. I also want to learn some farmwork, because that is where all the food in the supermarket comes from.

In our previous job roles, we were used to online and office-based work and we are both eager to get our hands dirty, learn some practical skills and see physically a job well done. We are looking to explore more of country Australia, learn skills relevant to making our own lives more sustainable and meet some interesting people along the way,

Beautiful 300 acre farm which we run wool sheep, alpaca, house cows, horses, chickens and bees. Although we've been farming all our lives, we've only been hon this farm for a few years so we are still setting up. We are also growing vegetables and setting up an orchard. With the current situation we are setting up to grow additional vegetables to assist a local soup kitchen.  We are  working on improving our land through revegetating and addressing erosion. We love our farming lifestyle and are always looking to enjoy and improve our farm. We use little chemicals or none and are old fashioned in how we view our farm and work. We enjoy our horses and training our working dogs.  We believe in dignity and respect for all, the animals, the land and the people.

It’s a safe way meet the people I enjoy meeting. I love travelling but not into the drinking partying life style that gets portrayed as backpacking. I want to learn and enrich my life with people and skill I learn and stories I can tell.

I currently work at a utilities company and it's helped me to learn that I love working outside in the fresh air and getting exercise as I work. I want to spend more time with plants and animals and learn more about how to look after them, specifically ducks and goats if possible -- I'd be interested in owning both someday, but want some hands-on experience with them first. I grew up with chickens and a horse. My parents used to make their own grape juices, applesauce, fruit preserves, bread, ketchup, and even a syrup made with bark from a hickory tree! I'm interested in doing more sustainable cooking, eating, and preserving, and working with ingredients from the soil to the table. When I was in Singapore a few months ago I visited a bar that uses as many local ingredients as possible to design cocktails native to the area, such as jackfruit or hibiscus flavoured drinks. They also used locally-sourced products to make their coasters, cups, and most other things in the bar! I really admire that philosophy.

To intersperse my time writing and researching with more physical and social activity. To be with like-minded people in rural areas and to help people on the land with their self-sufficiency, care of the environment and food production.

A few years ago, I spent a few weeks working in a wildlife rehabilitation center in South Africa and it was amazing. Living in the small, flat country of the Netherlands, I am looking forward to immersing myself in a completely different, open and more rugged environment to work with nature and animals again. WWOOFing seems a great way to discover a new place; while working hard and learning about my surroundings and the people, and hopefully making new friends along the way. I am looking to work for a few weeks in one place, explore the area, and continue to travel more of the country. I would love to work with or around animals, food and wine, or with ocean/lake/river related projects. However, I am broadly interested and open for experiences that had not yet crossed my mind. I'm not afraid of getting dirty and although do not have much experience in farming, I am looking to learn more, and I generally learn fast.

We would like to discover a new culture, jobs, experiences, people and to improve our English. We would like to offer our skills (mostly learn from you) in any work to help you, like gardening, animal caring, fencing, dairy, organic practices... We have a strong interest in farming practices and permaculture and we would like to learn about it to apply it in our future home. We would like to change our lives.

I join WWOOF to discoverd a new culture. I want to do something I've never done before like milking, feeding, inseminate, fencing, and other tasks I don't know yet. Moreover, It's a way to only speak english and so improve it

As far as I can remember, I have always wanted to go on an adventure and have always been afraid to take the plunge. As if I told me that I first need to have a 'concrete' professionnal situation in Switzerland before venturing myself abroad. That and other things, I guess! Now that I'm nearly 40, I realize that I have assimilated a lot of professional experiences without finding the good one. And as I was giving up a teacher’s study programm newly begun, I felt a great need to get closer to nature. Taking a step back from my life and getting closer to more basic aspects of life itself in the same time. It’s now or never ! I said to myself. Precisely because I have no 'concrete' situation, paradoxically. And no child nor constraints preventing me from taking off. The idea of wwoofing imposed itself quickly. By providing a reassuring context to my journey (versus backpacking alone for 2 or 3 month) and giving it a strong meaning: participating in various useful activities on organic farms and really meeting some inhabitants of the area (I’m sure that staying and working somewhere for a while is the best way to do it and to experience other cultures and ways of life). Moreover, given the good reputation of Aussies and my desire to learn English, my interest in Australian wild life (so crazy and fascinating!) and the fact that it's summer at this period of the year (without speaking about the incredible opportunity of being 'upside down' and spending Christmas in t-shirt), I didn’t need much time to choose my destination.

I have thought about it for a long time, because I am interested in expanding my horisont and because I have always been happier in the nature. I really want to gain experience and knowledge along the way and to meet new animals and people. Perhaps I even figure out that this is really something for me?

Our main goal by traveling to Australia is to get to know the country, the traditions and the people better. Furthermore we want to experience the australian daily lifestyle as authentic as possible, thats why we want to live and work together with typical australian familys. We are open and interessted in new experiences, challenges and keen to support the australian economy. In our view, WWOOF is the best opportunity to achieve the most genuine impressions of the australian lifestyle and in our case to gain our ambitions.
