I joined WWOOF because I want to learn and experience the ways in which different cultures and areas live and farm organically. The idea of working in exchange for staying with a host family seemed very reasonable to me and beneficial for everybody. I love to travel, and this is a beautiful way to do it and get the most out of the experience I’ll have abroad.

Seeking opportunities to travel and explore Australia. I’m newly retired and travel with my dog Louie. He’s an elderly kelpie x with a very friendly and gentle nature, loves a cuddle and a good lie down after meeting and playing respectfully with anyone who wants it. Very obedient. WWOOFing might benefit me and I’d like to give it a try.

We joined WWOOF because we are hoping to help local people and communities we travel to within Australia, to share stories of our experiences and gain knowledge of local cultures, farming, and building, to meet new people, and to create meaningful connections that will hopefully last in time.

I joined WWOOF Australia because I’m interested in helping people in return for learning new skills and making new connections, I did some WWOOFing whilst I lived in NZ and it made the experience of living in a new country much easier to adjust to and I credit that to the friendly like minded people I met thru WWOOfing and I’m hoping to get much the same whilst traveling around Australia.

After working in this industry for about 7 years, I decided to take 6 months leave to have a little bit of a break from everything really.. Besides this I really want to learn more about farming, using my hands and being in nature- away from Sydney and to explore other skills I may or may not have.

I've recently re-joined WWOOF because I will be on long service leave for some of 2021, and hope to spend some of that time WWOOFing. I love being outdoors and learning from WWOOF hosts. 🙂

I really want to use this as an opportunity to learn more life skills outside of the city life. I feel like living in the city and not moving out my comfort zone has made me an overall weaker person and I'd like to grow as much as I can. I also really want to work on my fitness and this is a great opportunity to do it. Most of all, I want to see how others live and view the world.

I am at a point in my life I want to learn & expand my skills about *PERMACULTURE* & self-sustainable lifestyle, connecting with the right like-minded people for me, build up community, collaborate in outdoor/indoor projects, or different crafted ones as well !.. WWOOF seems to be the perfect plateform to connect easily and explore Australia ground.

I have experience in gardening plants in greenhouse/outside as gardening private land, I lived 7 years on a RANCH with tons of different animals as horses, lamas, chicken, rabbit, dogs and more (I love animals).

I discovered WWOOF when I was planning a trip to Canada earlier this year. The plan was to travel from West to East but spend some quality time WWOOFing, learn some sustainable permaculture skills with like-minded people. As you can imagine the lockdowns delayed those plans, now almost indefinitely, so the next best thing is to do it in Australia.

To help myself and my children expand our worlds and explore people, places and work that will help us experience life to a fantastic degree. To learn by doing and at the same time be contributing. I WWOOFed many years ago in the UK and a loved it and feel WWOOFing would be a wonderful education for us all, as individuals and as a family.

Our work as healers has taken us on the road for the past year. We are looking for opportunities to now connect with communities and be with like-minded people to live wholistically and contribute to elevating the collective consciousness.

We wanted to travel a bit around Australia to see its natural beauty and thought about joining WWOOF in order to feel useful and learn about farming, organic, permaculture, or anything else that people would like to teach us. We hope to meet great happy people and share some enjoyable time as well as helping them.

Originally, I was inspired to start WWOOFing by my older sister, who spent months WWOOFing in the UK. Since then, I have learnt so much about the world, the Earth and myself. There is also a certain sense of adventure that comes with WWOOFing, with unexpected changes in plans, deep connections and the Universe always presenting me with new lessons to learn. Plus, everything I learn while WWOOfing is directly related to my uni degree, so thats an added bonus!

We joined to be able to share our extensive range of skills and learn new ones from other passionate people. We see WWOOFing as a great opportunity to see an area up close and meet the interesting and varied people who live off the land.

I am not afraid of physical work, know how to hold a drill, good at problem solving and learning on the go. I'd love to be either learning new skills in permaculture, animal husbandry, building shelters - anything really! Or being able to contribute with my existing skills in workshop facilitation, writing, podcasting, video editing, workshop facilitation, collaborative art-making, craft etc. As an artist I have a DIY approach, and if I don't have a skill, am pretty astute at learning it.

City/Town: Lenswood
Farming Methods: Organic
Accommodation Type: In Our Home
We are a family of four (Eddie, Prue, Edith (8) and Maggie (5) living on a 2 acre property in beautiful Lenswood in the Adelaide Hills. Lenswood is well known for its apple, pear and cherry orchards as well as a growing number of vineyards and wineries. Our property comprises a small orchard, vegetable garden, raspberry patch, chicken run, dam and cottage gardens. We practice organic farming methods, we do not use synthetic chemicals or fertilisers, we feed our soil using our own compost and weed teas, we rotate beds, we grow flowers amongst our vegetables to attract bees and beneficial insects, we have 3 bee colonies, three geese, a dog and soon we will have chickens again. Eddie has completed a Permaculture Design Certificate and currently we are implementing changes and nurturing our property to become more self reliant, resilient and productive. WWOOFers will have the opportunity to assist with projects on the farm as well as general property duties and maintenance. Upcoming projects and tasks include;
  • Continuing the transforming of the old orchard to a food forest
  • Enclosing the chicken run for fox protection
  • Planting, weeding, pruning, composting
  • Nurturing our vegetable, herb and tea gardens
  • Harvesting and preserving food
  • Caring for our pets (currently geese and bees- chickens coming soon)
Accommodation is in a converted wine cellar on the lower level of our house. The room is dark but stays very nice and cool. The room has a very comfortable double bed. We have a second bathroom on the main level of the house for guests to use. Our property runs solely on rain water so guests are asked to have short showers (personally we aim for 3 minutes each). All meals will be shared and help with food preparation and cleaning up after meals would be appreciated. We mainly eat vegetarian meals and can cater for all dietary needs. There is no public transport in Lenswood. There is a bus service to Uraidla (10 minutes drive from Lenswood) and we are happy to pick up WWOOFers and also drop off at the end of their stay. Woofers own vehicle would be helpful for exploring the local area (highlights include forest walks, wineries, water holes and local townships). Our working hours are Monday to Friday 8-4 with and hour and a half for lunch and tea breaks. Weekends are reserved for relaxation. If you have your own vehicle the options are endless, if not there are a couple nature reserves within walking distance from our house and a winery opening soon across the road. Guests are welcome to join in any family outings that may be happening also. We are social people who enjoy meeting others, learning about other cultures and sharing experiences. Our children are very energetic and love having visitors (be prepared to be very popular). We enjoy a glass of wine with some nice food and good company. We look forward to meeting people from across Australia and around the world. Currently we are searching for an individual who is social,  hardworking and eager to get their hands dirty. An interest in permaculture or organic growing would be good. Some independent working will be required (during school drop off and pick up times). We are open to the option of longer stays however we prefer to host for a week first as a trial and take it from there. We look forward to hearing from you. Prue, Eddie, Edith and Maggie Harry (the dog) Sunny, Midnight and Lizzie (the geese)
