As I mention I am in addition to my bachelor in environmental science, pursuing a global studies certificate with a concentration of world ecologies and French. I was speaking to my advisor, who oversees all students working towards this certificate, and she recommended I give woofing a shot. She thought I was a perfect fit for this kind of opportunity and pointed me right this way. After some research, I have found myself eager to start this process.

The main reason I joined wwoof was to experience the real australian way of life on a farm in a more familial kind of way, not on a big industrial farm. For me it's not about earning a lot of money, it's more about learning new ways of working and thinking. That's mainly why I joined wwoof, to support small farms, get to know new people and make some lifelong memories.

Since school I have tried various things. I've studied philosophy and musics for a couple of months. At the start of the year I've worked on a small permaculture farm in the north of Germany for 2 months. In the summer I sold local strawberries and also grown my own at home. At home I like to cook or go for a walk in the forest right out my door, I have a small knowledge on edible wild plants too! I'm still getting to know myself but I found being outside in the sun and working with my hands having nature all around me is what makes me happy.

I need to reconnect to nature and working with my hands- I want a simpler life for a bit, I've been traveling all over the U.S. playing music and I need a change of pace. My sister and her 2 year old baby turned me onto WWOOFing and we'd like to work together! I'm hoping to slow down, focus on the task at hand, and work on writing/recording an album in my spare time. I believe that more local, natural produce is always better than factory farms and trucking stuff hundreds and thousands of miles away to be artificially ripened. And I relish the idea of trading my time for tangible returns, like food and shelter- bit tired of the chase of money at the moment.

IMPORTANT NOTICE:  !!! WE'RE TAKING A BREAK FROM HOSTING WWOOFERS - PLEASE DO NOT APPLY !!! The Farm is an experimental project encompassing regenerative agriculture, bush regeneration, permaculture, sustainability, and community living. Our farm is set on 810 acres of stunning wilderness and farmland on the east coast of Australia. We aim to embody the permaculture principle of “we are nature working” and develop a deep understanding and respect for the land we steward, all the time aiming to regenerate the earth and learn from her and each other. We have a large veggie garden that provides all our vegetables, an orchard, herb garden, native food forest and silvopasture area. Animals that call the farm home include beef and dairy cattle, chickens, worms, bees, 2 dogs called Misty and Milo and lots of wombats and kangaroos! Some projects we are working on include bush regeneration, securing our water, solar, roads, fencing, designing new infrastructure, timber mill and house fit out. We're hoping to start a few earth building projects this year using materials sourced entirely from the property.

I'd like to work in the natural environment and have a special time where I can't experience in Japan. My major realm in university is international relation so I'm interested in foreign cultures and people. Also I really love green and nature. In a childhood, my parents often take me to go rich green land and hot springs.  Those experience makes what I am today and I want to cultivate that spirit even adult. In the future, I would like to work in a job that would allow me to travel the world and communicate with many foreign people so I want to gain a variety of experiences and absorb diverse values while we are young.

During my exchange year in the USA in 2017, which I spent living with a local family, I discovered how valuable the contact with new people from a different country and culture is. It gives me a lot of joy to get to experience different views on the world and learn from people with a totally different background and life as my own. This is a huge reason why I decided to join WWOOF. I see this as a huge opportunity to get to meet new people and learn more about this country from the perspective of locals. I would also love to share about my culture and the life in Germany. I think doing WWOOF can be a great exchange of culture and language in general. I also take this as a chance to try out new jobs and things I have never done before because that is what brings me joy. 🙂

We want to join wwoof because we both really think that the principle of helping each other is important and should be encouraged. Also, we both believe in sustainable living and want to work to support that as well as learn how to realize it.

To be able to learn from other people about sustainable gardening methods and practices. I have joined WWOOF to broaden my interaction with other people so I can compare my personality and be a well rounded person to be able to deal with other people's behaviour. As a mature wwofer I am hoping I would be of help to hosts by me experiences and knowledge I have gained in the past and at the same time learn from them in the process.

City/Town:
Farming Methods: Organic
Accommodation Type: Tent
24 acres in Boolarra South–the heart of South Gippsland, VIC. Mostly paddocks but with rainforest and creeks on the trim–home to lyrebirds, deer, echidnas, wombats, wallabies, koalas etc. Visited by abundant gang gang cockatoos, black cockatoos, wedge tail eagles, king parrots etc. We’re at Ground 0 with the land. We purchased it to clean it up (clearing blackberry and weeds), so we can reforest a lot of it and rebuild the creek as a natural bio-corridor, as well as set up orchards and our family home. Like I said, we’re at Ground 0. My wife and I (36 years old) and our 2 yr old daughter live on the land in a yurt. We have a shipping container as a living room. We have a small goat rescue where we take older, unwanted goats and care for them, as well as take them out to use for clearing the blackberries. This is what WWOOF’rs would help with: looking after the goats and helping with weed removal. WWOOF'rs accommodation would be in a supplied tent. We'd make sure you're comfortable but you need to be okay with camping and roughing it a bit.

WWOOF Australia acknowledges the Traditional owners of the land on which we work. We honour the ongoing cultural & spiritual connections, heritage, customs & beliefs of Aboriginal people & pay respect to Elders past, present and emerging.
