Overhill, Ellinbank Victoria – Picturesque Off Grid farm 1 hour from Melbourne

Recently Chris & Mikaela generously opened their doors to the WWOOF Team. We were in need of some location shots for our new branding and Overhill in Ellinbank, Victoria fit the bill. Such a beautiful location. Perched on the top of a hill with amazing views located only 1 hour east of Melbourne near Warragul on the Gippsland line.

Hosts Chris and Mikaela purchased this stunning off grid property, located 1 hr east of Melbourne 6 years ago, wanting to enjoy some acreage whilst they still could.

They took a year to ‘sit’ with the land and get to know it through the seasons before making any changes. Overhill has an interesting history and has had some colourful owners who planted thoughtfully and created some interesting features around the property, such as stone and tree circles for full moon ceremonies, and gorgeous mosaic tiling within and around the homes’ paved flooring. Chris shares the property’s past with respect, love and admiration for what he and his family now get to enjoy.

Originally avid Grass Roots and Earth Garden (sustainability magazines) readers Chris and Mikaela had heard about WWOOF from the early days. With their children now grown and 40 acres to care for, including Alpacas, Dorper sheep, Cattle, Chickens and 3 loving dogs, Chris & Mikaela decided to look into having WWOOFers assist them. They have thoroughly enjoyed the company of their WWOOFers, their daughter Mietta hopes to visit one of their WWOOFers overseas and do WWOOFing herself. After University.

WWOOFing at Overhill farm generally consists of regenerative agriculture practices & techniques, gardening, soil conservation, mulching, pruning, animal care, and off grid living skills. Chris and Mikaela are keen to share their knowledge but also to learn from their WWOOFers.

The Stay is very comfortable with a private 2 bedroom bungalow close to the family home and at least one meal is shared each day. Warragul, a large regional town is located 15mins away and pristine beaches only 45mins away. Ideally located for access to Wilson’s Promontory National Park.
