Full Property Description
Mount Misery Habitat Reserve consists of multiple properties protecting about 14 square kilometers of private and public land. Huon Bush Retreats offers tourist services on 1km2 of the reserve. Mostly, we work together with our Wwoofers, so you will learn new skills but sometimes you might be working alone.
Organic/Biological methods we use
This is not a farm. We do not have captive animals or non-native plants. This is a private habitat reserve, a place of exceptional natural beauty where we protect the native habitats and animals and share this with guest. Conservation covenants protect the natural values.
This is a good place to learn about sustainable technology. Our electricity is off grid solar, heating is wood fired with most wood being grown on the property. We have dry compost toilets, we harvest, treat and dispose our own water. We are 3800 tonnes per year carbon positive.
You do not need to be a weight lifter but you must be fit. Examples include lifting 15kg, walking 5km.
Semi-remote location, 12 km from Huonville. We generally go off the property once or twice per week. We can collect you from the bus in Huonville.
This native forest property does not suit everyone so we generally invite Wwoofers to visit for about 1 week. If everything works well for everyone, longer stays are possible.
Limited computer access. Our WiFi comes from our personal mobile phones so is not generally available to Wwoofers, though we can allow occasional use of our computer for important tasks.
We provide WWOOFers with a caravan for sleeping. It is 2 minutes walk to the shower/toilet etc. There is no heating in the caravan.
Social and meal times in our home. Meals are mainly vegetarian. We supply all your food and we share the kitchen duties as your skills might allow.
No children or pets. Our animals are native wildlife such as wallabies and possums and are sometimes allowed inside the house.
