Short Property Description

It’s the view!

41 ha (103 acre)  farm overlooking the glorious, green rolling hills of South Gippsland.
Enjoy the  variable weather, stunning sunsets, huge sky and sparkling stars.

We’ve Busy Bees, relaxed, inquisitive Black Angus, Hereford and Black Baldy Beef cattle, Black faced Suffolk sheep and quite a fruit/berries/ herb/vegetable garden.

Wildlife abounds as we plant more indigenous species along our waterways.
An ex travel planner ( helpful for ideas) and engineer, we’ve travelled extensively in Australia and overseas.

How to get here: We are 2  hours East of Melbourne.

Can pick you up in Leongatha ( bus from Melbourne), or from the train in Trafalgar or Morwell.
There are also Buses from Wonthaggi via Inverloch and Leongatha to nearby Mirboo North.
Or from Traralgon and Morwell.

If you want an interesting, varied, enjoyable experience, our farm is it!

We welcome WWOOFers looking to experience a different life.

Organic/Biological methods we use

Permaculture

Global warming also increases  evaporation. Our red soil already dries out quickly.
Improving Carbon helps give the soil its water-retention capacity, structure, and fertility.

The Soil is always covered, by understocking and rotating  animals.
Building 7+km of fences to keep the environmental vandals (cattle) out of the creek has allowed these zones to revegetate. Creating Shelter belts and fencing off steep erosion prone areas, plus planting lots of indigenous trees is transforming the farm.

Instead of Superphosphates, Anti- biotic free Pig manure compost is added.  Herbicides and Pesticides are avoided.

Currently we have a 1 ha Landcare test site – comparing plots that have been aerated with a Yeomans plough, mycorrhizal fungi and seaweed added. Measuring with Brix refractometer.  Soil tests have been taken.

Why I became a WWOOF Host

A big part of Travel is the people you get to know. In so many places. we’ve learnt so much about how an area really works, because we’ve spent time with the locals, instead of just skimming through with mostly other tourists.

We’ve been an English Language College home host and many adult international students and visitors have stayed with us. We enjoyed helping them become more confident with the language and travelling in Australia.

If you are missing a favourite dish from home, we always like to try something new. On a farm there is plenty to do, but there maybe a fish to catch in the dam!
