Ash & Jess
Nestled in the Murraylands region of South Australia, our property spans 15 acres of former cropping land that gently slopes down to a usually dry creek bed. Located just 5 kilometres from the beautiful and historic riverside town of Mannum on the mighty Murray River, we are passionate about restoring this landscape to its natural state and creating a thriving environment for native flora and fauna.
Why I became a WWOOF Host
We became WWOOF hosts because we enjoy meeting people from different cultures and sharing our passion for environmental restoration, sustainable living, and rural life. Our property is an ongoing regeneration project, and WWOOF provides an opportunity to exchange knowledge, learn from others, and give people a hands-on experience helping restore a landscape back to a healthy, thriving ecosystem. We also value the friendships and connections that come from welcoming people into our home and community.
Organic/Biological methods we use
We use low-impact restoration methods, combining hand weeding with mechanical techniques such as mowing, slashing, harrowing, and prickle rolling to manage invasive species and encourage natural regeneration. Where appropriate, weed biomass is left in place as mulch to protect the soil, retain moisture, and support native seedlings until they are established enough to naturally outcompete further weed growth. Our developing food gardens are managed without chemical intervention, with a focus on building healthy, productive soils through natural processes.
