375 acre forest and farm with a majority in plantation forestry. Cattle on recovering / developing pasture – using rotational grazing methods facilitated by electric fencing.
Firewood business operated by a lessee / land sharer using coppice E. globulus resource. Biochar kiln to utilise waste wood. Large vegetable garden. Hot house with raised beds. Substantial composting.
We became hosts to meet young people travelling – as we once did. And to get a bit of help.
We stay hosts because of the joy WWOOF hosting has been for 15 years now – 160 plus mainly young people who (almost uniformly) have been a credit to themselves and the people / communities that raised them.
Organic/Biological methods we use
We are influenced most by Permaculture and other regenerative techniques – but we also have quite traditional farming roots. We make a lot of compost. We make and use biochar produced from a Kon Tiki flame curtain kiln.
We are planting and caring for a variety of indigenous and exotic tree species. We recover firewood from our forest following the Permaculture principle – take a yield.
We love having cattle – and managing them in a gentle, low stress way. We use electric fencing to manage rotational grazing.
We have chooks for eggs – and for their gentle quiet presence.
We use non-organic chemicals occasionally – where it seems efficient to do so. We never ask WWOOFers to use chemicals.
