I own 25 acres of steep, rocky land in W Tree in the foothills of the Snowy Mountains. Over almost 35 years I have built (with considerable help) a lovely passive solar mudbrick house, planted crazy numbers of trees, gardened and raised my wonderful son. In many ways I have worked towards a dream from my early 20's to build a country life. My place is lovely. The vast expanse of bushland that surrounds it is beyond spectacular.   We can Sign off on your 2nd Year Visas as we were effected by the 2019-2020 Bushfires.

Virtue Farm is a 33 acre property overlooking Fraser Island, and includes 27 acres of remnant forest which will never be developed. The forest is an oasis for bird life and other animals and is great for walking.  We are 10 minutes from Hervey Bay and 10 minutes from the Fraser Island Barge that leaves from River Heads. We have an existing permaculture garden and are upscaling to small farm size. Our house block is 1.5 acres and backs on to the farm land.  We are in the beginning stages of becoming a commercially viable farm, so you will be helping to establish our property.

We ask for five hours of volunteering per day, per person, depending upon the type of work and we can be very flexible in this regard. This could include farm work, vegetable patch work, caring for the chooks, moving small saplings, rock picking, planting, mulching, weeding, harvesting, fencing, land clearing and chopping wood and general home maintenance. If you have any specific skill base or interest we are open to negotiation. In return, we will supply an evening meal shared with us and you can prepare your own breakfasts and lunch from what we supply.

Accommodation  for 4 in a granny flat downstairs, we have 1 room with two king single beds - can be joined to make a king, 1 room with a queen size bed. We can accommodate singles and couples. Mixed diet and a mix of vegetarian and meat based meals.  Whilst we have some capacity to cater for vegans, we will have to learn from you to assist us to cater for your needs and are willing to do so within limits. Internet access is available close to the house.

Virtue Farm acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of the land, the Butchulla people, where we work and live, and recognise their continuing connection to land, water and community. We pay our respects to Elders past, present and emerging.

While you are here, you should make time to go to Fraser Island. We are very flexible and happy to work around dates that you can access which are cheaper for you. Many of our volunteers have found great deals on the “Book Me” website. You would be welcome to leave your property here where it would be safe if you do choose to visit. Additionally, we strongly suggest that you plan for at least a one night overnight stay on Fraser Island; many of our volunteers have done the day tour and loved it, but all say they wished they’d stayed for longer as they felt like they only had a glimpse and not enough time to experience all it has to offer. Those people who stayed for two or three nights seem to have had the best experiences.

We have some back packs and camping gear for volunteers to use (for a small fee to cover wear and tear) if they want to do the longer treks and hikes on Fraser Island. We are also aware that some companies do dual booking between the Whit Sundays and Fraser Island and they have been both popular and economical. As long as you book your trip to Fraser Island from Hervey Bay we are happy to drive you to where you need to be. If you book from Rainbow Beach, then you will have to arrange your own transport as it is about an hour and a half away. We have two bicycles and helmets which we are happy to share so you can spend a day or afternoon in Hervey Bay exploring and experiencing all that our fabulous community has to offer.

There is no public transport to our home, but we are happy to drive into Hervey Bay so you can see our beautiful beaches, piers, parks and lifestyle. There are some lovely walks in the remnant forest on our block and it is always lovely to watch the kangaroos that visit daily. The volunteers that we have had so far have enjoyed their time with us and have been happy to join in with our family and extended family.

You will stay in the two bedroom flat downstairs, with its own bathroom, kitchenette with microwave, fridge, toaster and kettle , dining area and lounge room. We have one room with a queen sized bed and one with two king singles. There is a TV, DVD player and some board games, card, paints and mindful colouring books. We also have heaps of Earth Garden magazines and similar to browse.

Lovely property of just over an acre with mature fairly easy care garden. Has small tracts of rainforest trees and is located in an amazing mountain area of Queensland. There is a very large salt water pool with surrounding garden of tropical shrubs and trees. There are lovely walks, waterfalls, and endless wildlife within close proximity. The town is a 5 minute drive, beaches are within an hour. Lovely comfortable room in house. I need help with replanting and a little clearing and pruning. Some repotting, it would be great to have someone with some gardening experience. No heavy lifting or back breaking work, mostly tidying and as described. Will be some spreading of mulch and digging I would love input and ideas too.

Hello! We're a couple living in the beautiful Tamar Valley of Tasmania. We've been living here for about two years, enjoying the great surroundings of Tamar River/kanamaluka. Our property lies directly on Stony Brook, a small stream that enters the main river. We get regular visitors like black swans, egrets, pelicans and eagles. We've also seen echidna's on the property. We have a number of free-range animals, including chickens, turkeys and alpacas. We also have our two dogs, Bella and Meesha. In addition, we grow vegetables and fruit in our garden, using organic techniques to get tomatoes, zucchini, nectarines, and herbs, amongst other plants. There are lots of things to do each day to maintain the property, garden and animals. We're pretty outgoing, taking the chance to visit the best spots Tasmania has to offer. We've seen a lot, but there's plenty for us still to see! We have kayaks and camping gear, which you'll be able to use. We live in a small village called Blackwall, about 25 minutes drive from Launceston. We're only a short walk from the shops in nearby Exeter or the cafes in Gravelly Beach. We're even within walking distance of a local winery. It's just close enough to conveniences without the hustle and bustle of a big town.

City/Town: Cambooya
Farming Methods: Organic
Accommodation Type: Separate Building
Mixed farm/market garden on 6 hectares of fertile soil on the edge of the Cambooya valley, just 17kms south of Toowoomba, Darling Downs, south east Queensland. We're a simple mom and pop operation, still building up from our modest beginnings as a bare paddock just 12 years back. Anton qualified through agricultural college in his homeland of the Netherlands and moved here at 21. Nicola taught school on and off for 33 years both here and in her native New Zealand. Our farm had its gestation in the cut flower growing business, but when we got together in our 40s, it became apparent that growing chemical sensitivities and growing awareness of ecological issues required a re-think as we went forward. We decided the whole smallholding should be organic and that we should not put all our eggs in one basket. Are you spotting the puns yet? In short, we have, thus far, developed 3 arms to the farm - vegetables, garlic and eggs. Flowers will undoubtedly return at some stage.
