Ash & Shan
We are a family of five with three children (5, 3 and 9 months) – living on a beautiful 200-acre property in the South West of WA. We love a simple, nature-based lifestyle and enjoy raising our kids surrounded by open space, animals and experiences on the land.
Our property is a mix of pasture, plantation and pockets of natural bush, with a large dam that feels more like a lake and is great for paddling and exploring.
Our main farm enterprise is raising day-old chicks for pastured egg producers. The chicks are brooded in a secure shelter for their first four weeks before moving into large outdoor pens where they adapt to life outside until they are 16 weeks old and then delivered to their new home.
Alongside this, we grow much of our own food – raising pork, lamb, beef and chicken for ourselves and veggies from our no-dig veggie garden.
Creating a closed loop sustainable farming system is our goal. We are gradually reducing our outside inputs as we grow and develop our farm.
As first time hosts, we’re excited to share what we’re building here and to learn alongside people who are interested in sustainable farming, growing food and rural life.

Why I became a WWOOF Host

We are in the second year of building our pastured pullet growing business, with a market garden also in the making. As the farm continues to grow, we’d love the opportunity to share this journey with like-minded people who are interested in learning alongside us.
Over the past couple of years, the farm has grown from its beginnings into a busy and evolving operation, and we’ve come to realise we can’t do it all ourselves – nor would we want to. The opportunity to welcome others into this experience, share knowledge, and learn together feels like the right next step.
There are now many moving parts to the farm, and with three young children keeping life busy, an extra pair of hands on the farm would make a big difference.
We’d love to host a WWOOFer who is passionate about caring for the land and interested in being part of building a regenerative and sustainable farming system. For the right person, it’s a chance to be involved in a small family farm that will welcome you as an extension of our family unit, while still giving you your space and privacy.

Organic/Biological methods we use

We turn woodchips (carbon) into high quality compost after it has been in our chicken pens. We then use this rich compost on our large veggie garden (which we will be transforming into a market garden).
