Short Property Description
The Cook, her pigs, the Climate Change Scientist & his cows, check us out on Google Earth. We offer great food (sorry no special diets) with interesting conversation in a beautiful valley within bike riding distance of Cygnet and the beach.
We offer advice on purchasing your own property, cookery, charcuterie-in autumn, market gardening, cookery, preserving, cider making and animal husbandry. We farm organically and try to live as sustainably as possible, we employ principles of permaculture.
Volunteering includes feeding poultry & animals, planting, weeding, mowing, compost making, brewing, fencing, occasional animal slaughter (only if you are interested) and processing & General Farm Maintenance.
Accommodation for 2 singles within our home, or a couple in our caravan attached to the house, see the picture. Shared meals, mixed diets. Can P/U from Cygnet any day or Hobart by arrangement if flight arrives before 3pm between Tues-Thurs. Please don’t come to us directly from overseas or if you are ill, as I am in the high risk group for respiratory problems.
WWOOFers must be prepared to work independently at times. No smokers. Minimum stay 2 weeks. We prefer longer stays by WWOOFers with a genuine interest in agriculture. Initial contact by email, please. WiFi unlimited. If no answer leave a message slowly, stating your name and number and we will get back to you.
We want to leave our land in a lot better state than we found it. We are supporters of the Tasmanian Land Conservancy and The Bob Brown Foundation which both preserve old growth forests and special areas of value to flora, fauna and eco-systems.
In the long term we are looking for someone to park a tiny house on the property and take over all the gardens, land and animals to allow us more freedom to travel and spend time with our families but still have somewhere to call home.
Organic/Biological methods we use
We manufacture our own compost and mulch, collect cow poo and cut our own hay once a year. We follow the principles of permaculture
We are trying to improve the soils in the a large vegetable gardens and the orchard and practice rotational grazing with our livestock.
We are dedicated to leaving the land in a better state than we found it, we have done extensive tree planting and this work continues alongside repairing riparian zones.

Why I became a WWOOF Host
We joined WWOOF Australia to meet new people, share some of our knowledge, be challenged in our thinking and challenge WWOOFers in their thinking especially in environmental and climate change matters.
I hope every WWOOFer will leave here using less chemicals, water, power, plastics and fuel. We like to assist people in planning for the purchase of their own property. Pros and Cons. I have a heart condition and can no longer do the hard graft. I have plenty of knowledge to share with you.
