Murnong Wild Food Garden
On almost 1 acre within the town boundary; we focus on Tasmanian native edible plants (bush food), growing over 120 species. We also follow permaculture practices with a netted orchard, vegie and berry patches which provide us with fruit and vegetables to preserve for the year and where a few chooks for eggs, and guinea pigs for meat keep the grass down. We also keep quail for both eggs and meat. I make a range of products from our garden promoting Tasmania’s native larder. We have groups come through the garden to learn about the bush food plants.
Jobs will mostly be garden based, keeping the garden plants and environment ready for guests, and also transforming the produce to preserved food.
We are close to a small town, beaches and bush – perfect for easy exploring.

Why I became a WWOOF Host

I love meeting people from all over the world with an interest in sustainable farming practices. Now that I have focussed on growing and promoting bush food I will enjoy the partnership of teaching people about it in exchange for garden work.

Organic/Biological methods we use

We are basically organic gardeners, following permaculture principles. We raise our own small livestock (quail and guinea pigs) for meat, quail and chooks for eggs. I have a commercial kitchen for preserving both the domestic and wild foods.

Courses & Events

We frequently run garden tours with wild food morning teas. This is to promote the value of Tasmanian edible native plants. WWoofers will be welcome to join in at no cost (but may be asked to help us prepare)

I also run various cooking/ presentations on wild food. Again wwoofers will be welcome to participate.
