Naturally Sufficient is a 600-acre farm in Flowerdale, Victoria, just over an hour from Melbourne. Our mission is to help people learn practical self-sufficiency skills through hands-on experiences with nature. We host workshops, working bees, farm stays and educational events focused on sustainable living, permaculture, hunting, food production and regenerative land practices. WWOOFers can experience life on a large Australian bush property while learning skills that support a more self-sufficient and environmentally responsible lifestyle.
Why I became a WWOOF Host
I became a WWOOF host because I’ve heard many positive things about WWOOFers, that they are curious, hardworking and genuinely interested in sustainable living. Over the years we’ve learned a lot while developing our property and would love to share those experiences with like-minded people. Now that we have a caretaker living onsite helping manage the property, we’re finally able to open the farm up to WWOOFers. We also enjoy meeting people from different cultures and hope to build friendships around the world, especially as our family hopes to travel more in the future.
Organic/Biological methods we use
While we are not a certified organic farm, we aim to follow regenerative and environmentally responsible land management practices wherever possible. Our approach focuses on working with natural systems and building long-term soil and ecosystem health.
Some of the practices we use include:
– Permaculture principles for land design and food production
– Composting and organic soil-building methods
– Avoiding unnecessary chemical inputs wherever possible
– Encouraging biodiversity through native vegetation and habitat protection
– Sustainable food production and seasonal growing practices
– Responsible harvesting and ethical use of natural resources
– Up-cycling & repurposing
– Education around traditional skills such as hunting, foraging and food preparation
Our goal is to create a living example of how people can reconnect with nature and develop practical skills for a more resilient and self-sufficient lifestyle.
