Birkenburn Farm
Working cattle property with environmental projects, AirBnB accommodation, camping & workshops in Southern NSW. 3 hours from Sydney, 1 hour from Canberra. 1000’s of acres of beautiful bushland & farm.
Lots of wildlife – echidnas, kangaroos, wombats, birds, deer. Bushwalk, ride bikes, play tennis, swim in our creeks or dams. 1 hour drive to beautiful south coast beaches, historical local towns Braidwood & Bungendore, local wineries, Canberra’s cultural attractions.
Volunteering can include tree-planting, bush regeneration, helping set up & run environmental workshops, fencing, wood chopping, organic vegetable gardening, landscape gardening & construction, painting & maintenance, animal care.
WWOOFers accommodation in our house, with your own separate bedroom & bathroom. Access to reliable Wi-Fi. We are a married couple in our 50s & 60s, with 1 friendly, quiet dog. Our 4 young adult children live in Melbourne, Sydney and southern highlands.

Why I became a WWOOF Host
We joined WWOOF in 2009 to get help in our garden & on our farm, and also so that our young children could enjoy having new people in their lives and learn about other cultures. We continued hosting for around 10 years, but have had a break since Covid. Now that our children have all left home, we would enjoy spending time with young people again and getting some help on our farm. We also enjoy sharing knowledge about environmentally sustainable farming techniques and sharing Australian farm life experience.
Organic/Biological methods we use
We have a non-certified organic vegetable garden, with a greenhouse and small orchard area. We use composting, no-dig gardening techniques. We only use organic pest-control techniques in the vegetable garden and orchard.
On the property we are currently converting to regenerative agricultural techniques, with smaller paddock areas for regular rotation of cattle, to protect ground cover and increase carbon levels in the soil.

- Tree Planting and Creek Restoration with Landcare Australia
- Aboriginal Cultural Burning practices to reduce bushfire loads and promote biodiversity, with Aboriginal practitioners
- Property Vegetation Plan (from 2009, in perpetuity) with Catchment Management Authority
