Alison and Patrick Sexton-Green
8 acres of native regeneration, organic orchard and Garden. We are on the Banks of the Mongarlowe River where we are nurturing beautiful unimproved native pastures, gardens and an old orchard. We were impacted by the 2019/20 Black Sumer Fires and we working hard to manage weeds and the massive regowth that’s occured over the last few years.

We are close to the Monga National Park.  An ancient Gondwana remanent forest type and the source of the Mongarlowe River, one of the cleanest rivers in NSW it flows parallel to the escarpment for 40kms before turning inland.
This small parcel of land, was cleared agricultural land over 50 years ago, when it subdivided off a large property to build a trout farm that never worked. Patrick purchased this property in 1979, and it’s been slowly regenerating ever since. Over the last 10 to 15 years, it’s reached a point in its regeneration where we are now gardening by subtraction.  There has been so much regrowth that we are in a process of removing and planting vegetation develop this site.
We have a large food garden, primarily for personal use.    When fully operational we will sell excess produce, seedlings and seeds at the local markets.
We are 17 km from the nearest town – we can provide some transport to and from town where needed.   Woofers with a manual drivers licence or a car of their own would be ideal.

Why I became a WWOOF Host

We’ve been impacted by the fires and encroaching old age, while it’s been 5 years, the job of managing regrowth and weeds continues. There are still a section of our small property that have not had any remediation work. Woofers have been central to what we have achieved here since the fires. We have reestablished the gardens. We have thinned vegetation along the river, removed tons of bush little and timber to create a more fire safe environment and made significant progress in our weed management program. None of this would have been possible without the help and support of the many Woofers who have been part of our life since 2023
As pensioners, we still need help and this has been a wonderful way to get the help and support we need to manage and maintain  what we had built here before the Black Summer Fires changed our lives

Organic/Biological methods we use

We don’t use poisons or inorganic fertilisers.   All our weed management is done by hand.  we have removed invasive weeds around our home, our studio worshop and in what we call thc chook paddock – with out weeding program we keep them under control in these areas and are working to remove invasive weeds such as blackbery, dandelions, and Fog grass from our orchaed and the remaining native paster.
The regrowth since the fires is significant – large tracts of accia’s and christmas bush remain in some areas – this is a significant fire risk, and the are growing so densly that they will reach “lock up’ without intervention.   Lock up is where the regrowth is so thick that water no longer penertrates the soil which can become hydrophobic.

Courses & Events

I can offer individual tuition in Photography and most arts and crafts.  Patrick is a carpenter and we have a fully equiped workshop.
I can also take people for tours in Monga National Park, where I can share considerable knowledge about the Forest type, it’s history and the Mongarlowe River
