Iga Warta
Iga Warta is a not-for profit Aboriginal Homeland Community, in the Northern Flinders Ranges, rich in Adnyamathana culture and focussing on caring for country and maintaining a deep cultural, spiritual, and economic connection to our land. “Adnyamathanha” means Rock People, reflecting the deep spiritual connection to the rugged ranges, ancient stories, and sacred country.
We are also a cultural tourism centre with a range of accommodation from cabins to permanent tents, campfires; a camp kitchen; large amenities block; a pool and playground.
At Iga Warta, you’ll be surrounded by dramatic quartzite peaks, deep gorges, stony plateaus and wide-open skies — where the outback truly feels untamed. It’s a chance to slow down, connect, and become part of something special.

Why I became a WWOOF Host

Iga Warta joined WFOOF so that we could share our cultural and spiritual connections and beliefs with like minded people. We embark on a journey to keep the history, culture and language of our Adnymathanha people alive, and so with volunteers coming and expressing interest in helping and learning, we can then work together to do this.
As a Host we hope that volunteers leave empowered and with further knowledge in not only our culture, but in ways we can give back to Mother Earth, and how we can live off the land and work with nature.

Share, Care and Respect

Organic/Biological methods we use

Our core value is Share, Care, Respect, focussing on traditional practices that emphasise a balanced use of natural resources, avoiding over-extraction and maintaining ecosystem balance.
As the Northern Flinders Ranges is considered a harsh, remote, and arid environment, we plant and propagate native plants that have adapted to the local climate, supporting native pollinators and wildlife, and creating self-sustaining ecosystems. This planting system builds biodiversity, resilience, and reduces water and fertiliser inputs.
We focus on biodiversity conservation, pest and weed control, water resource management, climate change mitigation and sustainable resource use. These activities demonstrate the effectiveness of combining traditional knowledge with contemporary conservation science, so we can sustain ecosystems for future generations and contribute to national conservation goals.
