Full Property Description
We have a small farm (55 acres) and have a small Boer Goat Stud (including 8 new kids). We have a Maremma herd dog called Luna, and 3 Miniature Belted Galloways (a bull calf called Benny and a steer called Blue, and a pretty little blonde girl called Blossum – and a 1 month old calf called Banjo) a mumma pig, and her 10 little pigglets, Chooks, Ducks, Budgies, Doves and a house cat (called Whiskers), and a house dog called Coco :0). Now that the frosts are nearly over we are planning to replant a couple of rows grapes, that used to grow here, many years ago.
We have built a 3 bedroom cottage type Air BnB near the house and we have a sleep out in the large shed for accommodation that sleeps a couple and one other if required. If this is occupied we will accommodate you in the guest room of the main house :0)
We have quite a large house paddock with gardens and a swimming pool and there is a vegetable garden that we have started straw bale planting in.
We have a glass greenhouse, and I have a small eco airconditioner to keep the greenhouse at a modest temperature no matter what it is outside (temperatures can range from 45 degrees in the summer, to -6 degrees in the winter)!
The accommodation for Wwoofers is an airconditioned studio with a queen sized bed (and a fold out single bed if required), with a small kitchenette, TV (and internet) and attached toilet and shower. Our house was built in 1906 and a couple of years ago we did major renovations which we love! We have a fabulous pool (covered in for winter), sweeping verandahs and as you can see from our photo’s we get incredible sunsets! We do have a 2nd vehicle (if you are under 26 you will need to cover the $2500 excess if you are in an accident) that you can use to go to town, or possibly to check out local tourist sites ie The Carnarvon Gorge!
Roma is accessible by car (just under 500kms west of Brisbane), or by bus or train. Qantas also fly most days to Roma…..so what are you waiting for!!!!
Organic/Biological methods we use
We hope to use the goats to regenerate the property with the end outcome producing organic, grass fed Boer Goats for breeding to sell to farmers wanting to mix Rangeland Goats with Boer Goats to provide meat for ourselves and the local market, and possibly organic produce in the new greenhouse and the strawbale garden. We plan to grow heritage listed grapevines (Roma was the first place in QLD to grow grapes)! along the driveway over the next few weeks .
