Boutique Winery and small Murray Grey herd grazing property using Organic Methods for Viticulture and Pastures. We are located on the Gloucester River, grow Chambourcin and Chardonnay grapes and make red, rose and white wines. We have a cellar door and an undercover area for wine tasting and ‘nibbles’ to complement the wines and conduct winery and property tours as part of our range of offerings. There are two camping area sites and additional on-site accommodation available. Meeting the animals (cows, alpacas) are a part of the attractions available.
I enjoy the interaction with people from other countries and learn so much form them culturally and in the farming and business practices that they have in their homeland. It is also a way to foster understanding and appreciation of others with whom we share the planet, that ‘pale blue dot’ that Karl Sagan talks about. Look it up! Astounding and humbling.
Organic/Biological methods we use
We work on enhancing soil health by use biodiversity, nil synthetic chemicals, biological control of pests, minimal tillage, composting and manuring from our cattle. Our animals are free range, we physically remove weeds and use high-pressure steam for under vine canopy weed and grass control.
Formal classes are replaced by hands-on, there and then learnings across a range of areas including care of cattle and alpacas, pasture, winery and garden irrigation systems, small engines, electricity generators, tractor, excavator, small pump and hand tools usage, maintenance, soil and ground erosion control, planting of vines, winery hygiene, wine making, bottling and capping, labelling and so on.
