Connemara Cattle
We have two regenerative cattle farms. The cattle are quiet, many are like pets and can be patted. Both farms have substantial areas that we are working on, we have some invasive weeds that need attention! We are currently working on our regenerative pasture project, so we also need help fencing. Our farms are on the Sunshine Coast Hinterland. We’ve been unlucky to have a cyclone and some natural disasters recently. We are in a zone that qualifies for 2nd and 3rd year Visa Extension. At one of our farms there barn that has a bedroom, kitchen and a bathroom, this space is set aside specifically for guests. There are baby calves born all year round. We currently have a bottle fed calf, she is pretty jolly cute and has her own Instagram page! She was born as a twin, the mother accepted one calf and rejected her, very sad story, but she’s doing fine and getting lots of cuddles from her human friends.
Why I became a WWOOF Host
We’ve travelled extensively, we love learning from people from different cultures. We’ve been fortunate to have people share their lives with us whilst travelling, and these have always been the best travel memories. We believe we live in one of the most beautiful locations in Australia, and we want to share our amazing corner of paradise with people wanting a genuine farm experience. The farms are too big for my husband and I to manage, we need the help of enthusiastic, hard working volunteers to manage our farms
Organic/Biological methods we use
Regenerative cattle farming is a holistic approach that focuses on restoring and improving the health of the land by working with nature. Key practices include rotational grazing, which mimics natural herd movements to improve soil health and biodiversity, and integrating cattle into the ecosystem to build organic matter in the soil, enhance water cycles, and sequester carbon. This contrasts with conventional farming by aiming to rebuild rather than deplete resources. Building healthy soil removes the need for synthetic fertilizers and pesticides. Healthy soil is also more resilient to drought and heavy rains. Carbon Sequestration – healthy grass captures atmospheric carbon dioxide through photosynthesis and store it in the soil as organic matter, helping to combat climate change.
