Steve – Brooloo
I have a 5 acre property in the Sunshine Coast hinterland with a large vegetable garden, two orchard areas, various fruit and nut trees including bananas, mangoes, citrus trees ( orange, limes, lemons, mandarins), macadamias, mulberries, pecans, pomegranate, jaboticaba, rainforest tucker trees like Davidson’s plum and sandpaper figs. A creek with endangered rainforest habitat, which my family have helped regenerate and revegetate with the help of landcare groups, runs along the length of the property for approximately 200 metres, and there lovely swimming areas, as well as a reasonable section of around 300m to kayak. The riparian zone requires maintenance from invasive weeds.

Why I became a WWOOF Host

I have previously been a wwoofing host when my children were younger and the experience was truly enriching, with some of our wwoofers staying lifelong friends, including one couple who ended up buying the neighbouring property because they loved the area so much.

In 2022, my wife, Kathleen, who was the main innovator for our garden and property, through her Permaculture training and farm upbringing, was tragically killed in a car crash. Her heart and spirit are in this property, but I know I can’t maintain it on my own. In view of the great experience we had previously with wwoofers, I would like to explore the potential for having wwoofers here to enrich the property and help with garden and rainforest maintenance.
