Maeve Gardens, a subtropical paradise in the Northern Rivers region of NSW. Blessed with 10 acres of land we farm using purmaculture techniques.
One of our goals is to set up a small scale ginger and garlic farm. We love food and are excited to grow ginger and garlic organically.
My wife Moira and I live a simple life in Maeve and spend our time making good food, doing yoga and writing (when we’re not weeding). We are a creative family and have had a career in the circus in the UK for most of our lives before moving back to Australia 8 years ago. My parents had wwoofer when I was growing up and I had great memories of hanging out and enjoying there stories.
We like to share social times with wooofers and will have some BBQ and week end nibbles.
Organic/Biological methods we use
We are keen to improve the soil and chip biomass and make compost to use in the gardens and raised beds. We have simple gardening systems and the use of self wicking raised beds in greenhouse seems to be a way for us to control water as it’s rains a lot here. We use organic fertiliser and don’t use chemicals much but use it sometimes for getting the odd devils fig! Cut and Paint methods so very contrived use of poisoning plants. We also have chickens which act as our own mini tractors throughout the property.
